Cowherd is an admitted USC homer so don't get your panties in a bind when he talks about them being the best. He will always follow up by saying that USC plays a weak conference and needs to stop crying about not getting consideration for the BCSNCG when they only have 1 loss. I like Cowherd but he definitely has a vagina. As long as you keep that in mind when listening he's entertaining.

Look at from SC's point of view for a second, it's even worse us. All year long we hear about how the PAC is soft, that the SEC and Big12 is so much better, that SC doesn't deserve to play in the ncg, and then EVERY YEAR, like you said, they all change their mind when everything's said and done, "oh well SC is the best team." WELL WHY DIDN'T YOU SAY THIS EARLIER SO THEY COULD GET A SHOT AT IT?!

This has only been the case in 07 and 08. In 06 you would have been in the title game but blew it against UCLA. No one was claiming USC was the best team after the UF OSU game.

In 07, the loss to Stanford was SO monumental, that no one cared much that they were left out. Georgia seemed to be more of the media darling that year.

This year honestly no one really seems to think you guys DESERVE it, just that maybe you could have beaten UF or OU if you had earned your way into the game. I mean, you only got one AP vote, and I'm guessing that was from Plaschke, Adande, or some other homer.

quote:

Actually most "experts" did say they want to see an SC UF matchup.

Well of course they want to see that matchup NOW. But that doesn't mean that anyone thought you were more deserving when the UF OU matchup was announced. And that's not the same thing as what he was saying:

quote:

LSU or Florida beat OSU or Oklahoma? Well...they were supposed to do that. Let's see them play USC. We never hear "USC was supposed to beat Penn St. Let's see them beat LSU or Florida".

The talking heads tend to build up USC after a win against questionable teams, while they generally opt for knocking on the teams that SEC teams beat and talk about the teams that didn't get a chance to play that would have given them a better game. That was his point.

Might also have something to do with playing a bunch of Big10 opponents in Pasadena. That would be enough to make many teams look like world-beaters.

I think Coward is usually pretty dead on though he does take extremes and stir the pot sometimes. Say what you will, but I've heard Coward give LSU lots of love over the last few years, including in recent days. This morning I heard the end of his interview with Herbstreet and Coward is saying he has LSU No. 5 going into next year. That's really showing lots of love for the Tigers. And we need all that love to get as high a ranking as possible going into next season.

You also have to remember that SC is usually playing in the Rose Bowl, several days before the Championship Game. They have to have something to talk about for those next several days, so they take the impressive-looking win over insert-Big 10-whipping-boy-here and turn it into a talking point for discussing the BCS for the next several days. They don't do the same (or at least not nearly as much) for the winner of the Championship Game (the SEC team) because once that game's over, they are pretty much done talking about college football (at least about that season).

Had Florida beaten OU on Jan. 1st, and SC been playing Penn State last night, I think you would have heard a lot less of this BS. Also, as I mentioned before, it's just he easiest excuse for taking shots at the BCS (outside of Utah, now).

I agree. I wish we could play Arkansas and Auburn every year instead of Oregon State.

And didn't OU lose a conf. game this year? I guess it's more respectable to lose a conf. game AND big bowl game most every year, than to lose a conf. game and dominate the big bowl game.

beat Or State
beat Stanford
beat ucla
ect
ect
ect
ect

Ect, ect? I'm guessing you wrote those because you ran out of conf. teams we've lost to that we were supposed to beat.

I'll take 5 conference losses over 5 years.

I'm pretty sure OU and UF both lost a conf. game this year too.

No doubt. I actually preferred when they played the CG on the 4th. Less time to fill with ridiculous speculation and assertions.

playoffs man, only real way to settle this shite.
people keep mentioning SC's loss to OSU this year, UF lost to Ole Miss at home, Ou to Texas on a netrual field, in my eyes all three losses are equal.

Of course, SC is just an extremely convenient tool for them.

It's more than that. Los Angeles (and all of southern California) is the biggest television market in the country that gives a damn about college football. ESPN is nothing if not marketing-savvy. They get more ad dollars out of their sponsors for being popular in LA than by being popular in Atlanta, Houston and every city of over 250,000 in between combined.

More people in the South watch college football than people in Los Angeles watch for $C. There are fans of every school in the country here and more people in L.A. hate $C than like them.

+1. And with the Rose Bowl add the population of the mid-West and your tv viewing audience is near 70% of the country. That's some serious ad dollars at stake.

You'd rather play Auburn EVERY year than Oregon State? Dude, you say things like this and you lose all credibility. This is the only year in, like, forever that Oregon St. was better than Auburn.

If it's that easy, why did Florida lose to Michigan last year in Orlando?

You're right. But I was referring to SC's recent record against Auburn and Arkansas vs. SC's record against OSU. That's all.

they slept on Stanford no doubt, but it is still a proven fact that when they lineup for big games, they kick arse.
