I know he’s much maligned on this site but dude invested two years in growing a relationship and playing a big part in underwood even being commited to us. The fact he flipped on us without even giving Sloan a heads ups sucks.

I know there nothing he coulda done with the type of money Michigan threw at him but I still bet Sloan is regretting not having backup option in case this went down.

It’s kind of what makes coaching college football sucks. Dude did everything he could, and now, technically, Underwood just cost him his job.

Maybe, just maybe if he ran an offense that didn't look as bas as this he would have overlooked the $.

More likely Sloan is out after this year and he gave BU a heads up.

He let a 17 year old kid play him. He's a joke.

Underwood probably laughed at him as soon as he hung up everyday. I can't believe these HIGH PAID coaches are so naive.

From a recruiting point sure. But he’s still horrible at his real job which is to put a competent offense on the field.

He has been a terrible OC and only has his job because of Underwood's previous promise. If he was good at his job then he wouldn't have to worry about losing it if 1 recruit flips.

He truly gave everything he had in the is recruitment even flew up to watch one of playoff games during the bye week. Unfortunately in today’s game great relationships don’t outweighs a great payday anymore. Sloans job very much was tied to underwood and with him bailing he’s unfortunately a sitting duck. This is the cruel side of coaching and recruiting in todays CFB world

He let a teenager play him. Meaning of all the coaches recruiting him, Underwood saw Sloan as the most clueless

He did get a nice coaching contract, tho. So he played BK, even if he thought Underwood was playing him. I think Sloans OK with riding Underwood for a short while

Always felt this way and thought college baseball is tough to recruit. You want to sign the best players possible but not the ones that are so good they don't make it to campus. Can't put all your eggs in one basket

Sloan is a young OC and coach. His inexperienced unfortunately showed up in this recruitment. He absolutely should’ve had a backup plan for underwood I guess he thought going all in on him and not going after other qbs would show the kid he’s all in on him but I backfired

I hear ya. No doubt this was the worst week of his professional life. And he’s likely gonna go from being a candidate for some HC gigs a month ago to unemployed next Monday in less than 2 months. And he’s gonna have to uproot his family—who he probably rarely sees—again and move to who knows where. But they know what they’re getting into, and if you reach a certain level, you get paid very handsomely for those sacrifices.

Now it appears Joe himself will be sacrificed. And for something he couldn’t have prevented. (Well, the underwood thing—he’s been pretty bad as an OC. Though I do think he’s really been hamstrung by injuries, a poor run blocking OL, and an immobile QB with a propensity to give the ball to the other team). But he’ll have a few million in the bank as he finds a new place to land. He’ll be alright.

Pull ya head out your arse… money talks. What offense does Michigan run that would excite any QB.

You're right. He probably didn't laugh, just shook his head in amazement.

He shouldn't have to do more. LSU was offering millions and he should have honored his commitment. Hope he enjoys his 3 yards and a cloud of dust and I look forward to him being the next five star bust
