The wife and I have a getaway planned for tomorrow through Wednesday in Frederickberg, TX. Thinking about leaving a day early (today) to make travel easier. I'm guessing Houston would be a good stopping point along the way. Any must eats if stopping just for a night in/around Houston?? What say thee board?

Any notes on Fredericksberg would also be appreciated

Hit up Grape Creek Winery. Their stuff is really good. The wine tour and tasting are top notch. They have a sister winery for sparkling, it's called Heath and is also very good. Downtown is fun too. Most of the wineries in the area have a tasting room along the main drag. Maybe hit those up first and then and pick the ones that you like to visit. Also, make the short trek to Luckenbach. It's fun. Have a beer and listen to some music.

Depends on where you stay if you choose to stop in Houston.

I find most of the wines there too sweet, but the wineries are still super fun.

Also, no open container laws so you can drink in the street!

Narrow Path, Calais, French Connection Wines, Elisa Christopher, Sandy Road, Adega Vinho, Ab Astris, William Chris

Get your wife some lavendar soaps from wild seed farm. If you have to do Becker go to the one on Main Street and buy the miscellaneous items from the shop, skip the wine

Jacks chop house for dinner

Plenty of good wineries that produce real wine.

And some that are shite that make a bunch of sweet garbage like Fat arse. Do your research and you’re fine.

The hop on hop off bus on Saturdays is totally worth doing to go go a bunch of wineries and not worry about driving.

Lots of fun and decent restaurants on Main Street. The German pancakes at old German bakery are great.

Das Peach Haus is a worthwhile visit

Fredericksburg will be very, very crowded next week. Drive the 20 minutes to Bankersmith, Tx, which is a cool bar out in the country with a nice outdoor area. Even if you don't stop, that road, Old San Antonio Rd is a nice drive and also goes by Old Tunnel State Park which is worth a quick stop. There is a shirt trail that goes down to the old train tunnel. If you stay on that road headed south you get to Comfort. Stop at Hyes Cafe for lunch or just a drink . One day you can hike up Enchanted Rock which is fun but definitely get reservations

Be sure to stop off at the Garrison Brothers whiskey distillery.

For Houston, if looking for a nice place to go with the wife, Eugene’s is very good seafood with lots of booze selections.

If just wanting down and dirty grub that’s excellent but not fancy, Thai Market Street Food can fit that bill, but bring your own booze. They’ll allow it. Candente has good margs and great spin on TexMex.
