For anyone who thinks that LSU has anywhere close to as much money as other top schools

Michigan's collective released a statement personally thanking Larry Ellison, Founder of Oracle. He is worth $233 billion.

Yeah we just have to hope for a cap at some point. But something tells me there are ways around that too. The only fair way is a draft and that’s not happening. So here we are. The sport is actually bull shite now.

Larry Ellison didn't go to Michigan?

The analogy for LSU's NIL is they're house poor. They can afford the nice looking house in the good neighborhood, but they furnish it with Ikea, have to send their kids to public school, and vacation in Galveston instead of Cabo San Lucas. They might be able to get a luxury car as well, but if interest rates go up they're tapped out.

Problem is that everyone with a brain in Louisiana goes out of state for college.
The majority of LSU's rich alumni are professional athletes. They don't really have a business that would benefit from paying a current athlete a million dollars to sign with LSU

The fanbase may have to start resetting expectations then if we can’t get some type of cap. It truly sucks.

That’s weird, I was always under the impression your entire athletic program was very well funded NIL wise.
How much did that women’s basketball player last year get in NIL?

If nothing changes NIL wise eventually a handful of schools will dominate every year, LSU won’t be one of them .

I think it is a direct correlation to the states economy. A lot of oil money has moved out Louisiana and relocated to Texas. The states major economy is injury lawyers now, which isn't good.

LSU overachieves for the limited resources it has
We have some people with money willing to shell out a lot relative to what they have. It’s stupid but they do it and we should all be thankful. Our collective ranks near the top of all schools and that’s amazing. Can it keep up? Not sure. It’s an arms race.
Guys like Gordon who don’t participate in the collective are particularly important but there aren't many like that. Other colleges have several billionaires. We might have 1. Texas has money pouring out of the ground. We have a trickle.
It’s going to be tough to Compete in this environment.

I think what we might end up seeing is those billionaires interested in buying a professional sports franchise, but either don't have enough billions or don't have the ability to buy due to lack of availability of teams for sale, will start becoming pseudo-owners of college football teams.

Teams will spend money and then when the returns don't jusitfy that money it will come crashing back down

It is. These posters don’t really understand what they are saying. If LSU wanted to give Bryce Underwood 12 million they could have. They just don’t though and people are looking for reasons why.

I hate to break it to you, but a cap isn't going to fix much. Caps will limit how much a school can pay a player. A cap doesn't stop 3rd party businesses/boosters from paying players whatever they want.

I wonder how long a program like Bama can survive being elite in the lawless NIL world. If a 12 digit rich Big 10 fan can just take recruits in one swoop, how does that factor in for them? Crazy future we’re talking about here.

This is where I'm at with "buying" a team. Just because you get Underwood doesn't mean you automatically going to win a championship. There are many pieces to the puzzle that have to be attained and fit the system for things to work out and win a championship. aTm fell flat on their face when they thought that buying a recruiting class would do it. The problem is, when you amass that much talent, it's hard to manage that many egos and make it work and those that aren't happy have free reins to leave at the end of the year. So, if you don't get a championship that year, you are most likely out of luck the next. The NIL is bad but the portal is the worst problem because you can't build a roster and maintain it to create a high level sustainable program.
