If you play anything really really fast, mistakes and omissions go unnoticed much easier. Almost everyone I’ve ever seen play drums to Tom Sawyer plays it way too fast. Even saw Neil do it in concert. To me, the song just doesn’t hit unless it is in the right tempo.
The first minute or so of this video shows that

Talented drummer. He's mastered a technique where a single sounds like a double.

Potty mouth but in his interviews he really shows respect and appreciation for the drummers who came before him.
