People that don't deserve pets

It's a cat, I know the OT doesn't like cats so let's get that out the way.
We live out in the sticks and had a cat hanging by the porch, not uncommon there are some feral cats around. Cat looks way too clean and all that to be feral. Wife goes down to it and it comes right to her, we give her some food and water and she eats like she hasn't eaten in a week.
Well we take pictures and send it to the neighbors around us, everyone is on 20 acres or more. Someone responded that she was their cat, no hey we will come get her or anything so we immediately knew what was going on. Few minutes later we get the message that she has a baby that they still have and she was let out yesterday and never came back. Complete BS, no way this cat had only been out for a day. Next message was basically, thanks but no thanks y'all keep her if you want or let her outside.
We are going to keep her and see how she gets along with the rest of our animal crew but damn, why have animals you don't care about or want to keep? I just don't see how someone can say frick it with a family pet.

The OT has always been stupid with that. Cats are pretty awesome as long as you stay on top of the litter situation.

Outside cats in the country are great. Keep rodents and snakes at bay.

We need stronger laws on animal abandonment.
I also hate when people take a 12 year old dog to the pound because they don't want to take care of them anymore. Those poor animals.

Some assholes a few doors down moved away and left a beautiful blue-eyed siamese who ended up having kittens under my house right after I moved in. She's since disappeared. I hope someone picked her up. That's not a cheap cat.

Is it wrong to have an outside cat?
We had a similar situation several years back. After taking in the cat for a month or so, damn cat ended up leaving us and staying with a new fam down the street.

I live in a rural area and had a cat show up on my porch. It started to meow and wanted to be pet. Was very friendly then went bat shite crazy. Damn cat was bipolar. Luckily I had a broom close and kept it at bay.

Yep. That's the people I hope when they get old and senile, their kids dump them in a nursing home and never go visit them, check on them or anything.
It's... You've had the dang dog for 12 years, and now that he's old, you suddenly want to just get rid of him? That makes zero sense to me. Dang dog has given you nothing but unconditional love for 12 years... it deserves better.

I'll give you four cats right now. I don't deserve them... can you give me your address?
Obviously you live in a rural area...by your own admission there are feral cats around. Wait till one has 6 kittens in your shed and I bet you will be like aww shucks... I need all the cats that have arrived in my life.

I always take my grandfather's example with animals. If one shows up, regardless of what it is, it showed up for a reason. Treat it as your own.
Any stray cat that shows up got trapped and taken to the vet for shots and to get fixed. We had raccoons, deer, cats, everything random showing up. It all got fed and taken care of the best he could. I guess that's where I got it from.
As long as an animal isn't a danger to my family or the other animals I got on purpose then they have a home with me.
