Ruston 1990 always a contender whenever this is debated.

West Monroe 98

Although '99 Evangel beat WM for the 5A championship in Evangels first year they were allowed to move to 5A. (while JC decided to hide in 4A). This was a mythical NC game as well. I would have loved to have seen the 98 versions play because those teams were probably both schools strongest teams. Evangel would have won that one as well. As they did every other time in the dome.

Probably so, that Evangel offense was ahead of its time. They could score at will from anywhere on the field.
That 98 West Monroe defense though was the most physically imposing groups I’ve ever seen at the high school level.

This place really needs a high school board for these scintillating topics.

I favor OPHS 89 because they destroyed Brother Martin 35-7 in the Dome after Brother Martin beat Ruston the week before 59-56 in overtime. That team was clicking like no other with Connie Ray and Glen Ellis. But there was only one team to beat Ouachita that year and it was Ruston 14-13 at Ruston.
That Ruston team became the great 1990 team.
Nobody was beating OPHS in their full form. Nobody touched Ruston.
But with all that I still say 1998 West Monroe was the best.

Yeah because of an ineligible player. Point is those Evangel players never had to walk off the field after a game with the opposing team having more points than them. Hell I bet they rarely trailed at halftime in the late 90’s-early 00’s.
