There are more eligible voters each cycle so you expect another 3 to 4 million votes each cycle, if half went to Kamala, then the 8 million is more like 10 million. Now add in the enthusiasm for the first black asian female should be good for another 2 million.

If we had voter id, no mail ins, no resitration by dmv, no same day registration, it probably is more like a 20 million vote problem.......back to the original 20 million you mentioned.

Where did the extra Trump votes come from between 2016 and 2020/2024? Especially considering his outgoing approval rating was ~ 34 %.

I can’t do a data justification of Trump’s voter increase in 2020.
I’m working on something from 2016 to 2024.
If someone proved to me that there was fraud involved on both side in 2020, it wouldn’t be the most surprising thing.
From a narrative perspective, you had numerous galvanizing events that would’ve encourage otherwise non-participants to participate. The complete lawlessness of 2020 combined with a complete crackdown on legal behavior surely motivated many otherwise unengaged voters to vote. You were allowed to burn down cities. You were not allowed to enter Subway without a mask. You had to shut down your small business. You did not have to shut down terrorist organizations. Plenty of people saw that and were rightfully enraged.
