Has anyone sold a boat on consignment with any boat dealers in the Baton Rouge, LaPlace or New Orleans area? I'm interested to know who you used and if it was a good experience not having to deal with showing it and handling the titles & paperwork. Not looking to trade for another boat but about ready to sell mine. Thanks for any input you can provide.

I did The Boat Yard. When it came time to sell, they tried to get me to drop the price lower so they could make more. I stuck to my guns. Boat sold with no issues.

Selling a boat and trailer is a fairly easy process. Why give someone else the money?

I have a 22' Skeeter for sale and it's been miserable. I'm only asking 12k for it. I was supposed to drag it to the boat yard and list it on consignment.

My son sold his at the boat yard, a 14/48 with a 25 yamaha. He ended up getting 4500 for it. We brought it over there, he signed some paperwork and about 4-5 weeks later he got a check in the mail. Very east process.

So he let them hold the collateral and gave them a no interest $4500 loan for
4-5 weeks? This doesn't sound like a good deal to me.

How do they make more, don't they get a percentage of the sale price?

I have sold 3 thru the Boat Yard. Super easy. As stated above, stick to your guns. They will call and offer you a lower price than you are asking. I told them "No" on each boat and within 2 weeks received a check for my asking amount.

How is the price set? I have seen a range of 12 to 22 on Facebook for my hull. The 22 is obviously BS to me, but the 12 didn’t move immediately, so maybe it’s 10.

What numbers are they goes to suggest, list, push to settle?

You tell them what you want for it, and they add 10% or so above that to make their cut.
