Jay Johnson has actually won

He inherited a better team and then bought the rest which is easier to do in baseball obviously

Jay brought in a few generational players, but the reason he won the natty is because of Paul's recruits. Crews, Beloso, Dugas, Morgan, Pearson, Milazzo, etc.

Would this be 2026 Dylan Minnatee? 1b/LHP out of Cal who committed a few days ago. Don't remember seeing a thread on his commitment

There are enough contributions to the championship from players recruited by each staff that trying to claim that players recruited by either are the actual reason is disingenuous.

We don't win without Skenes, Riley Cooper, Nate Ackenhausen, Thatcher Hurd, and Tommy White. Just like we don't win without the contributions of the players you mentioned.

There is no reason for the pissing match ascribing win shares to a particular coach.

Bottom line, the pitching the old coach left behind was nowhere near the competition LSU had to go up against in the SEC.
That's where the old coach screwed up.
A good nucleus for the lineup was decent enough and allowed LSU to make a regional.

Good grief. Not this shite again.

He had Arizona playing for a Natty.

He won a Championship in year 2 at LSU.

His first season at LSU he won 17 SEC games without any legit SEC caliber pitchers. An actual more impressive managing job than winning it all the following year.

The guy he brought over from LSU, Riley Cooper, could have easily been the CWS MVP. And he won the Championship series without ever pitching Skenes. Which is really nice to say.

A&M, Florida, Tennessee, Arkansas, Miss not spending?

Pretty confident Montgomery went to A&M and made more than anyone that came to LSU. I doubt their fans were using it to discredit their coach at the time.

Yeah, lets not give Jay Johnson any credit for relentlessly recruiting and developing guys like Skenes into something even more special.

And btw, in a down season where you lost a ton of veteran players (off a National Championship) from your lineup you still were an inning away from hosting a Super. That's the floor.

It's so frustrating to see anyone bitch about Jay Johnson. Especially right after he won a Natty and people try to discredit all he did. That Championship team believed in his plan.
