Unfortunately, I found him injured in my parking garage in downtown Shreveport this morning. I bet he flew into a high rise last night migrating in the dark.

Nonetheless... They are beginning to arrive after this recent weak cool front.

I have seen multiple in Tiger Stadium during night games.

Back in the 80’s dad had a Brittany Spaniel that would point woodcock. We would hunt up in Concordia Parish in the wood strips between the levee and the rivers. Good times. We killed limits of birds many an day and a few rabbits too.

Season doesn't open until Dec. 18th...

I'm sure some cat has already gotten it. I didn't want to chance capturing it and trying to rehabilitate it only to get "Peanutted" by the feds.

Just come in and land on the field?

Oh, I was showing the picture to a buddy of mine and he goes, "No way, my wife sent me a picture of a bird that flew into our sliding glass door asking what it was, and I said some kind of snipe or something..."

Then he shows me this pic she took... (Also, in Shreveport yesterday)

One time many years ago I was taken on a woodcock hunt.

We Were in a fresh cutover and they were coming over the tree tops, then diving straight down.

I shot two boxes of shells and never knocked a feather off of one

I'm still pissed about it

In the walkways surrounding the stadium. I think they get confused, run into the sides of the building, etc.

That makes sense. This is not the first one I've found injured or dead in downtown Shreveport.

More common in East Central Georgia now than Quail. Not that it ain't great to have them around but its a shame what has happened to quail.

Same in Louisiana. When I was a kid, my dad would yell at me, "Get out of those bottoms! If you keep shooting woodcock the dogs won't find the quail."

That's not necessarily true, as our dogs point both and pheasant, chukar, etc.

I think it was more of a quail purist attitude and not so much about "messing the dogs up".
