Submission Radio, watched this morning.
Jon Jones says he wants to fight Alex Pereira, who I believe was one time a middleweight and is now the LHW champ. All while Aspinall is the interim HW champ. Jones coming up with reasons for the choice but it seems pretty absurd.

Jones gets roasted by the host and Luke Thomas.

I would too. He wants to protect his record (essentially undefeated). He's 36 and would be 37 before he'd fight Aspinall, who's incredibly quick for his size. I really don't blame him.

He’s definitely ducking Aspinall and exactly for the reasons mentioned in the video. Poatan is a more lethal Gane, but similar in the since that he’s a much easier matchup for Jones than somebody like Aspinal who is a fantastic grappler, quick feet & hands, is the same weight class, and holds the interim belt.

With that being said, Jones has long earned the ability to select his fights, but it should not be as the HW champ if it isn’t Aspinall

Edit: Look out for Jalton Almeida coming up the HW rankings also. This weight class is getting interesting beyond the heavy knockout shots

The 36 year old who's well past his prime? Uh yeah.

He’s simply fighting for money & legacy if he fights again after Stipe.
Fighting another current champ is a much bigger draw than Aspinall. It would be a huge deal for Tom, not for Jones & frankly Tom doesn’t deserve that shot

Scared has nothing to do with it. 43 year old GSP wouldn’t be scared to come fight Adesanya or Dricus

Great for GSP, who would lose to both by the way.

Aspinall is the backup fighter so if Stipe gets injured in the next week....

GSP vs Adesanya is a money fight. The common person wouldn't feel the same with GSP vs Belal or Dricus. Pretty much what Jones position is in currently. Every UFC big name chases money and matchups with other a big name. Fear has nothing to do with it, it's just business

Yeah but there is a very small difference between the Jon Jones vs. Aspinall situation and the ones you mentioned. In your examples, there isn’t an interim champion involved.

The interim champion SHOULD be the one fighting for the belt next, regardless of what happened before. This is what the interim title is for. I get that Jon Jones is fighting for money and all that, but he shouldn’t bend the rules for himself

About 3x better than Jones' one fight at heavyweight: Gane

jones isnt scared of anyone. first he is trolling because all of the people keep saying he should be fighting aspinall. next, even if he would prefer the poatan fight, he can try to call the sahots but it will be up to the ufc if they prefer to do a mega fight with him and poatan or strip him of the title. my guess is that they would prefer to do the mega fight with poatan.
