43 monkeys escape in Beaufort, South Carolina

Escaped from a research facility. People have been advised to stay inside with locked doors and windows. None of the monkeys have been apprehended. Reminds me of a disaster movie where everyone dies.

I remember back in the early 80’s there was a animal research center on the north side of Acadiana Regional Airport in New Iberia. Someone broke in and released many of the monkeys that were caged. I don’t remember if any were infectious but it caused quite an alarm at the time.
Any of you old timers remember that?
