Loss in SEC Championship

Why is everyone seemingly so convinced losing that game would negatively impact any team that loses it. How is a team going to get punished for playing an extra game in an attempt to obtain the bye week. In what world do they allow a team that sat on their arses that week to leapfrog them?

Look at Georgia last year
Undefeated all the way up to the SECC
Only loss was in that game.
Left out.
Yes it's changed for this year, but they have proven they have no issue leaving the loser of that game out. And that UGA team would've had way more of a case than a 3 loss LSU would for this year. The playoffs for LSU require winning out the rest of the way almost for sure.

I get that in the 4 team playoff tough choices had to be made much to FSU’s dismay (lol) but I thought the whole point of expansion was to prevent that

Everyone automatically views it as “3 losses” instead of “10 wins”. Assuming they lose to UGA or Texas in SEC CG, I think it depends a lot on how that game goes.
If LSU loses by 20, then it’s hard to make a case for them as a playoff team. If it’s a close game, they probably deserve a spot over another 10-2 SEC team

I don't think a close loss would keep you out, but having a bad night in Atlanta and losing fairly big could keep you out.

Would losing close be enough to secure a home playoff or are we all but guaranteed to be out or on the road somewhere?

There will still be tough choices. Those choices will just be between 2-3 loss teams instead of 1 loss teams.
I think folks who say the committee “won’t punish” a team for losing their championship game are being naive. Unless they lock the rankings going into championship weekend, losers will be punished to some extent. Even dropping one spot is still punishment. The question is how much they’ll be punished. But if you’re the #10-11 team, one spot might be all it takes to get left out.

Nobody can answer this right now. I mean that’s going to depend entirely on your ranking going into the championship game.

I mean the committee is full of shite and often backtracks but Heather Dinich said conference championship losses are not going to be punished

The committee has done it before.
2017 - Wisconsin 12-0, #4 in rankings. Bama 11-1, #5 in rankings. Bama sat at home while Auburn and UGA had a rematch in the SEC CG. Wisconsin played Ohio St in the Big 10 CG. Wisconsin lost by 6, Bama jumped them. I mean even Auburn was #2 going into the rematch with UGA after beating Bama in the Iron Bowl, lost the rematch and got behind Bama despite head to head, but that was their 3rd loss so that's a little more understandable.
Point is, the championship games count and the committee has already shown you will be punished for losing them. I would like to ask why people are suddenly assuming teams won't be punished for losing them, I've seen that sentiment echoed a lot this year. Sounds like a lot of wishcasting and amnesia to me

that was a 4 team playoff.
They had 5 P5 conference champions, 3 were undefeated, Texas Beat Alabama and Alabama had beaten UGA.

UGA lost the SEC championship last season and was wrongfully left out.

A loss is a loss and it won’t help any team making the playoff field. If you have good enough record and ranking what’s to gain by playing an extra game?

The playoff teams will be set before a championship weekend of games. The only thing that will change is the seeding.
No team who makes their title game will be penalized for being a conference representative.

But with the auto bid system that would mean the P4 would all be guaranteed their conference championship pairing to be in the playoffs which has not been reflected in the rankings. I’d like to believe it’s true for the sake of us making it there and things going poorly but seems like an unlikely scenario to have everything set beforehand

Has the committee stated this or is this part of the playoff criteria when the format was established? Because other than that there's no way you can say this for sure. They certainly haven't abided by this in the past
