So what did you people REALLY expect this year? -Men's BBall

Note: This is also for the hundreds of lurker's who may not know alot about the LSU Basketball program, and what has gone on around here in the past couple of years...
Now, for the rest of you TIGER Fan's...This is just a short list of why i think we lost to Utah and why we might struggle a bit for the next couple of years, in certain games....
This is what happens when Tyrus Thomas and Anthony Randolph leaves to go pro(if they both would have stayed here at LSU, they both would be playing this year) and when Greg Monroe doesn't want to stay in state and when TJ allows J'Mison Morgan to get out of his commitment(even though i understand TJ's reasonings behind it) and when Magnum Rolle transfer's, etc...and with Garrett Green redshirting, etc...which we could have used him this year, with him being 6ft 10 and 235...I am not saying that MR and GG are Superstar's, but i would take either of them right now over anyone on this entire message board!
Another words, this is what happens when we have a depleted team!...So what else did u people REALLY expect this year?
Just try to stay as positive as you can about this team. I am not trying to bad mouth Butch Pierre, he was a great Coach and some would argue an even better recruiter...However, Pierre didn't do much to stop these players from going pro and he even went as far to say in an interview about AR's departure to the pro's...By saying...''I told AR it would be his own fault if he stayed at LSU and did not go pro...During the recruiting process I told him that I could pick ‘em. He should have been a McDonald’s All-American and that’s been proven now. I also told him that if he stays at LSU for more than two years it’s his fault.''
...What kind of College Coach would lead or push his own player's into the pro's and away from the school he Coaches for? Does this sound professional and ethical to you as an LSU coach? Just a little something for you Tiger fan's and the rest of the board to ponder over...
No wonder a few of our LSU players left early for the pro's or transfered or quit during BP's tenure, it sure didn't seem like BP was doing everything in his power to keep them here, even though he did everything he could to get them here, and i am sure JB has his fair share in this demise as well...This makes some people believe that BP's Coaching may have been in vain, and makes some people wonder if he did it for his own fame and his own notorioty... Here is the link to the interview.... LINK
I am sure TJ can get this thing turned around, IF he can get these players to commit to coming here and STAYING here at LSU. You can't have a successful program when player's are leaving every year to go pro, or transferring, or redshirting, and expect TJ to work miracles with the depleted team that has been left for him. He may have a chance now that BP isn't here helping push them all towards the NBA...We are 12-2, not bad so far, for a new Head Coach at a new school, and in a different conference, mind you...and for those who cannot think positive about LSU Basketball, remember baseball is coming up soon, then after baseball, comes FOOTBALL!

Good post. If anyone expects LSU basketball to be up to par, or even remotely close to be on the same level as the football or baseball programs, then you're just plain foolish. The team is going to get better and is going to have a growing pains and be flat out beat. But I'm optimistic that Trent is the right guy to put us to be a contender and a force in the SEC, and eventually the country.

I've been nothing but impressed with TJ so far... ![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/Icongeauxtigers.png)

The SEC West is not that good, and there's no reason this team shouldn't be able to compete in this conference this year.

From reading The Rant I expected that firing Brady was the ticket for the final four. I expected the PMAC to be overflowing with cheering happy LSU fans jockying for tickets to the SEC Tournament.

quote:Without reading your really long post, I will answer your main question: I see this team being better than last year's team, but not much. We may end up the season with a winning record (only slightly above .500) but no better than an even record in SEC play. We don't have the horses, plain and simple. From all accounts Johnson is a better coach overall than Brady, so there should be some improvement. I concerned for his ability to recruit. Brady and his guys seemed to do a good job of that, but just couldn't do anything with the talent. I hope that Johnson is not his opposite.

Yeah I'm not reading all that this early in the morning.
All I expect is competitive basketball. I will be ecstatic if we get into the tourney.

Good post. To be short and concise with it, here were some of my expectations....
3 big non conference games - TAMU, Utah, Xavier - I was hoping we would not get shut out. I wrote off Utah early, but hoping we could split or take both of the other two.
Go undefeated in all other non-conference games - check
Recruit or Develop a point guard - Spencer has improved greatly, and Bass looks good in short bursts off the bench.
Conference Play .500 or above - We were 6-10 last season in conference and finished strong for the reg season. If we could finish with a 2 game improvement when the only significant roster change is replacing Randolph with Tasmin than I think we're showing improvement.

I expect our new coach will struggle to rebuild a program that has been attacked and hounded by its fan base for the past 5 years.
LSU is football first, baseball second, and coach hating third. Basketball comes in at #4 with very few fans in the seats at the PMAC.

Honestly I was surprised at the preseason predictions of us making the tourney. We were pretty much the same team from last year and still without anyone in the post. The they were hyping up CJ and I was hoping he would finally step up but he has not played well. He is the key to our success though.
