Is anybody familiar with different parts surrounding Charleston? Wanting to stay outside of downtown. Mount Pleasant or Avondale?

Why do you want to stay outside of downtown? When are you going?

I stayed across the bridge in Mount Pleasant and it was fine. Paid parking was easy to find in Charleston and convenient enough to major attractions.

Summerville used to be nice. I guess it's still nice but congested now.

Just stay at the Vendue where you will be within easy walking distance to the major attractions and excellent restaurants.

I've stayed in Mt Pleasant and James Island areas before. Both are across large bridges and even if you want to walk on the sidewalk (and i think 17 has one) it's a long haul. Would be like walking from West Bank to the French Quarter.

That said, if you choose to do so, the Mt. Pleasant and Shem Creek areas can be fun in a suburban way. Lots of good food and some bars. Plenty of cheaper hotels.

Are you looking to stay in a hotel, or a VRBO?

Mt pleasant is great. Stayed there a couple months ago and love it. Nice , clean , safe , and an easy 5-10 min drive across the bridge into downtown Charleston. I stayed at the holiday inn express that’s close to the ravenal bridge.

Depends on what you want to do and where you want to stay

If you’re looking for more space and have a good airbnb or VRBO in Mt Pleasant, James Island, or Avondale it can be great. Into downtown should be 10-15 minutes unless bad traffic but you have to drive.

If everything you want to do is downtown I wouldn’t stay off the peninsula unless you absolutely need the space or a pure price issue

I like Mt. Pleasant because it's a quick ride over the bridge into Charleston + I'm close to the bars/restaurants (i.e. Red's Ice House) along Shem Creek. Great day drinking.
