I know about 90 percent of posters have coached defenses at high levels of tbe sport… so…

How much time do you spend in your 3-4 weekly practice days preparing for the backup QB?

Knowing the En See Eh Eh limits your practice time each week, what do you not prepare for so you can devote time to preparing to face the backup QB?

So many posters last night were blasting the coaches for not getting the team ready to face the backup QB, so I was wondering how y’all run your practices.

honestly it’s hard to prepair for 2 radically different defenses

that being said, time and time again our safeties don’t make plays when they could have

multiple times the read end agressive pursued the RB because the safety was walked up and should have covered theQB

safety play has been better
but if you can find ways to make them the guys who have to make the play you’re better off than anything else

The problem is they knew he was going to play so it should’ve been factored in but wasn’t.

But we knew he would play and likely be rotated a good bit. For the season they’re 1 play apart in terms of plays called for each QB.

Wegman- 109 passes, 25 rushes

Reed- 81 passes, 52 rushes

he hadn’t played in over a month (other than garbage time in a blowout win).

we didn’t “know” he would play in a game still in the line because A&M has never used him in those spots except when Weigmann was hurt.

so unless we anticipated injuring their starter, there was no indication they would make the change.

That includes practices, strength and conditioning, and film study plus they are not allowed to do any of this during scheduled class time.

For those who are unaware of the NCAA rules regarding practice and such.

Current NFL DC here (my game is at halftime)

We have all these extra shadow staff guys and none of them are limited by the NCAA to how many hours they can work. We should've had a scouting report and game plan if he were to come in. Our players didn't necessarily need to spend all week preparing for it, but we should've been able to implement a different scheme that would've been able to get at least 1 stop. Or carry over some of the gameplan from Arkansas? It's not week 1. The guys have to be able to pivot at this point

I don't expect our defense to shut them down every time but they were incredibly bad vs Reed. Honestly our "havoc" style defense of rushing upfield and pressuring the QB is not going to be effective vs a good mobile QB. But we don't have the talent on defense to win the majority of downs, hence the big play havoc style defense

The only game that happened previously where he had recordable snaps was vs McNeese. Every other game he had more than one recorded stat for was when Weigman was hurt and every game Weigman started other than McNees saw a total of 1 snap recorded by Reedand I am not sure if that was at QB or not, 1 run for -4 yards. No stats in the Moo State game. So explain to me how we knew he would be rotated in.

Three Things to Consider in LSU's Defense of the Zone Read Executed by Marcel Reed

(1) This is Texas A&M's OC bread and butter, and he teaches it well. Marcel Reed executed the zone read flawlessly. He was holding the mesh until the very last moment and pulling well after the DE committed.

(2) Marcel Reed is quick. He outquicked LSU's defense. LSU's LBs and Safeties were not quick enough and didn't tackle well when they did get hands on him.

(3) From a scheme standpoint, LSU defended the Zone Read well. The players were following their assigned roles. The problem is that LSU's Safeties and LBs were not executing. Too slow and way too many missed tackles.

Reed is basically a bad passing version of Milroe, makes sense to prep for it, it’s coming either way

Weigman missed 3-1/2 games with an injury to his throwing arm.

In games where Weigman was healthy (prior to LSU game)
Weigman - 109 pass ; 25 run
Reed - 11 pass ; 8 run

all 19 of those plays by Reed were with a 34+ point lead.
18 of those 19 were in the game that Weigman got hurt (and score was already 35-0).

this was literally the very first time they have ever rotated a healthy Weigman out of a competitive game to put in Reed.
