Pure pocket passing QB is a dinosaur in CFB

The unwillingness to run for 1st downs when everything is taken away is not a winning strategy. You have to be at least willing to run.

Yes.
The two pocket passers last night were both awful.

Eh I actually disagree. But a pocket passing QB added by literally 0 running game? Yea, you’re fricked.

Agreed. It's like playing with one arm tied behind your back. Nuss is mobile enough to pick up yards when the play breaks down. He just rarely chooses to take off.

We should be running most of the offensive plays from under center for Nuss’ skill set like NFL offenses.

I think this is all Nuss’s fault. I’m starting to wonder if he’s a selfish player.
He refuses to scramble even when the field is wide open in front of him. He wants to try to make a highlight reel throw down field instead (even when the receivers are double-covered or triple-covered). He also refuses to take the intermediate throws and wants to chunk the ball 25 yards or more down field all night long instead of just making 1st downs and keeping the drive alive.
Maybe he thinks these skills are more valuable to NFL teams and that he might risk getting injured if he runs.

5 out of the last 6 national champ QBs were pocket passers. But yeah genius pocket passers are totally dead.

Remember when we were complaining last year about JD not staying in the pocket?

What about Bryce Young? I’m not going to sit here and name every QB that didn’t run, but there have been plenty of successful college QB teams in the last 5 years with pure pocket passers with similar athleticism as Nuss.

Not exactly. Most of those QBs could run and pick up 1st downs when needed.
Are you saying they’re all pocket passers because they’re white?

This. Pocket passer can still be very effective. Just have to have a running game. Play action pass after you’ve been pounding them can be deadly.

Yeah…watch UGA…we just can’t run the ball

Exactly. Nuss has plenty of ability to run, but he refuses to. He won’t be Jayden Daniels, but he’ll pick up enough yardage for 1st downs and to keep our drives alive.

Except for the last 6 national championship games.

Uhhh no. Sounds like you are thinking that. Anyway all those guys are drop back pocket passing quarterbacks. The title of the post is pure pocket passing qbs is a dinosaur in the CFB. Nuss can run when he wants to. He is not slower than Mac Jones. I think the playcalling and coaching on the offensive side of the ball does not get enough blame.

Pure pocket passers that keep throwing off their back foot*
For all the love Herbie gave Nuss about his pocket awareness, he still backs into rush lanes on far too consistent a basis. Will Campbell has to be pissed that he's forced to over exaggerate the speed rush walk backs.

Every time Nuss gets up he’s limping so I’ve thought maybe he has a nagging ankle injury. But then he takes off finally and trucks a LB, so I’m thinking maybe he’s just scared of getting hurt?

Nuss is a scared pus$y. I’d tell him to his face too and he wouldn’t do anything about it because he’s a pus$y. Doesn’t want to get hit. It’s somewhat of a shame we have such a good pass blocking o line. Maybe a few good hits would get him moving.
