Sold a classic car across state lines. Buyer declined to come see the car in person. He spoke to our mechanic who checked it out and did some repairs. He also spoke to the guy who was going to broker it for us. Waffled, agreed to a price, backed out, we knocked a couple thousand off, he agreed, signed “as-is” agreement, wired the money, and had the car transported to him. Now he says he “thinks” he can hear a knocking sound in the engine. He also gave a list of minor things he says weren’t disclosed. Some were, some we weren’t aware of, some I doubt. He wants to return the car or have us pay for whatever he thinks should be repaired. Should I tell him to kick rocks, or am I good?

"As is" should mean something.

He was squirrelly from the get-go.

He has little to no recourse.
You're good assuming the wire cleared.

My understanding is that he would have to prove that we intentionally hid information, not just that we may have missed something. Correct? We were honest and transparent through the whole LONG process. There may be details that we didn’t think were important, that he does.

How so?

As-is is implied in the majority of no contract purchases.

Not notarized. How would we do that via email? I’ve not once seen that recommended.

You're good. Sounds like he's got buyer's remorse.

Did this buyer see any kind of write up from your mechanic?

He got a copy of the invoice after the work was done, with outstanding issues noted. He also had a long, private conversation with the repairman, who is recognized locally as an expert.

Tell him to kick rocks. He had every chance. If you even entertain this, it's never going to end.

Do you have a bill of sale? Did he agree to the terms of that bill of sale?

Exactly. Does it make any difference how I phrase that? From a diplomacy standpoint, any particular approach more or less likely to shut him down? He’s an uptight, whiney California dentist, who masquerades as a nice guy, if that gives any perspective…

If that worked once, why would he not try again?

He's hoping you send him money back to make all this go away.

He's clearly done this before.
