The evolution of the defense is incredible

It's still a work in progress, but consider this:
-LSU's 2 most relied upon preseason defenders were going to be Guillory as the only experienced, highly rated DL and Perkins as the X-factor player were both lost during the season.
-The interior is being manned by a collection of "average" players and true freshmen and they are holding their own.
-Burns who has been a perennial liability has become not only consistent, but turning in some game altering impact plays
-Each week the number of mental mistakes are decreasing
-And, we currently have a player at each level of the defense that is not only an impact player for the team, but a nationally recognized top performer in Swinson, Weeks and Zy. None of that was expected coming into this season. Also, think that these 3 were already on roster from that awful 2023 defense.
Credit to the players and the elite staff for putting in the work to get the ship righted.

No way those people still existed by the end of last season. Surprised they ever existed at all.

Will be great to see the defense continue improving as more talent comes in on the recruiting trail

right. but we had many posters making that claim. we tried telling them it was a combo of both but with a good DC he can mask and alleviate some of the issues we saw. house was terrible at adjustments and putting guys in positions to do well within their skill set.
we lost 2 stud players and baker just keeps rolling next man up.

It’s a faster recovery than the D made under Saban from 2000 through 2002. The Tepper hangover.
Illinois hung 34 on us in the 2001 Sugar. Then the Damien James situation set the recovery back in 2002. Don’t remember the cause, but he left the team.
I never would have predicted it. I thought this season would be full of iffy D.

Proof that the problem was mostly coaching.

Well that can’t be true.

Uhhh. Let's go back to the first 3 games of the season and I remember seeing that excuse all over TD as excuses for Baker.
I'll just say the defense has improved, but the fact that we improved drastically AFTER an injury, is pretty telling.

I think BB is a very good DC and has done a tremendous job.Having said
that the Harold Perkins experiment held LSU back defensively. Look he
is a great tiger but for some reason or another he couldn`t catch on to the
system. Whit Weeks is a instinctual football player and a team player where
as HP was more interested in his Pro career and the coaches tried to
placate him and his family to the detriment to the defense.Iwish HP all
success in the future but I hope it isn`t at LSU.He doesn`t` seem to be
coachable.

You could tell by the players reaction to house after the bowl game he wasn't liked. Just shows you that average players will play harder for a great coach then great players playing for a crap coach.
The house defense was he didn't have the play to run his defense. A great coach can scheme with the players they have.

Derp. Sugar Bowl. I’ll correct.
