With how much he has emerged as the clear top corner on the team I think putting him on the best wr all game is a move Blake should make. The last 2 games stamps has struggled when matched on guys like Armstrong and Tre Harris. Harris Mostly hsd his way with stamps and even would’ve burned him for a 90 yard td if he didn’t drop the ball. That game actually changed defensively when zy got moved to Tre’s side to mostly cover him before he went out. I also think Stamps would be more comfortable covering the wr2 instead of elite no.1 receivers. What do y’all think ?

Sometimes the corners are m9st comfortable on a particular side of the field.

Plus it's harder to disguise if you're in man or zone when the corner follows the wr wherever he's at

If he's good on the right side I wouldn't change a thing (or whatever side). Don't fix something that isn't broken. Hopefully let a young fella learn but 7 games in you aren't a young fella anymore. On that TD Harris caught you can't let a WR catch a ball around/over your body like that. That's fixable being burned isn't.

No, there are other things that you can do to cover WR1 in man, and if you're in zone, it'll be really easy to scheme him out.

Zy has taken fairly even snaps at left and right corner on the field this year, so its not a matter of liking or having to be on 1 side.

The coaches know Zy is the best but we dont play man every single play, in fact we played a decent bit of zone vs. Ark and OM.

Inevitably Zy wont be the other teams WR1 every play, teams move players around and we dont play man every play, but yes the goal is always to have Zy on the other teams best receiver if possible. This will be a huge thing in the Alabama game coming up with Ryan Williams. A&M doesnt really have a go to WR, they split the catches around decently well between 4 WRs really. Noah Thomas is their #1 targeted WR but it's not by much and he hasnt just owned games or anything this season outside of maybe Arkansas where he had 6 catches for 109 yards and a TD. He has less than 300 yards on the season which is less than what CJ Daniels has for us this season and Daniels has missed a game entirely and is our #3 really.

We have to have a better CB than Stamps. I cringe everytime a pass goes his direction. He guards nobody, anytime.
ZY is playing very well.

Belichick said that he used to have Revis lock down the other teams wr2 and then use a double team their wr1. Seems like an effective strategy.

I would say its situational, and defer to the coaching staff...

Thats a pretty well known strategy too. I'd just keep doing what we've been doing since the bye. One things for sure, he makes our defense ALOT better. It's pretty amazing what the D coaches have done this year. Even with Guillory gone DT isn't a huge weakness and we have 2 Fr getting reps. We have great production from the DEs and 4 are contributing. Weeks has become a star at LB. With just one legit star among the DBs they're holding their own. I just hope we can keep this staff together for a few years

What a terrible take. Stamps was our best CB against USC. Glad to see Zy has emerged once he got healthy

No. Zy is great, but he's not "travel with WR1 great." The last time we consistently had a corner doing that was Patrick Peterson. It's not something teams do very often anymore, as it usually gives away coverage. Not worth it.

Where do you people come from? Stamps has been good this year. He needs to get better at making plays on the ball, but he very rarely gets beat. He had a coverage bust in a zone against Arkansas. That was it. I mean unless you're counting crossers where Stamps was next closest in zone coverage, which of course provides no indication at all of his coverage ability.

Greedy Williams, Tre white , and Derek Stingley also followed number 1 wideouts but I get what your saying it does give away coverage but in a couple weeks we gotta cover Ryan Williams who’s an absolute freak. As much as stamps has improved I think I would feel more comfortable if zy mostly had that assignment.

Sometimes, but not every down. Like in '14 against Alabama, Tre didn't stick on Amari Cooper the whole game. We had Jalen Collins at CB2.

Same in '18 with Greedy and Fulton. If WR1 was longer, sure maybe stick Greedy on him more often, but he didn't travel.

Sting didn't even travel with Devonta in '20. Sometimes they may put him on him on the other side of the field.

The last time I remember a true CB traveling with WR every play was Peterson against Julio in 10. I still remember the tackle he made on Julio on a crosser where he evaded like 6 people in the middle of the field to get Julio at the LOS.

LSU's cornerbacks are designated as either a boundary cornerback (short side of the field) or a field cornerback (wide side).

At ok gosh don’t follow WR1 his freshmen year when we had another viable CB. Fulton was a second rounder.
