Wow, Texas fans are trash. And so is the SEC. Hundreds of beer cans thrown onto the field and they give the fans what they want and change the call. The call itself probably shouldn’t have been PI, but definitely holding. Clear indication that Texas and their trash fans will be able dictate what happens with the refs like Bama did.

No penalty for at least a hundred beer cans thrown in the field? What a precedent.

Was not definitely holding. The receiver grabbed him. Regardless of how, the right call was made.

Not a good look for their 1st season in a new conference.

So we’re just going to let fans bombard the field with trash with no penalty?

No that should’ve been a 15 yard penalty assessed after the return.

It was a terrible call. If anything should have been offensive pass interference. The guy plowed into a relatively stationary defender, established separation, but the throw was right to the defender. Absolutely wrong call.

But with that said, the referees made the situation worse by reversing the call. How can you justifiably do it? I didn’t see beer cans. I saw water bottles. Regardless, bad move on the part of the fans and referees. What a joke.

Refs are the 12th player on the field in college and pros. Despicable.

So the precedent has been set, don’t like the call, throw trash on the field. Call will be changed, no penalty for the trash.

Statement from the SEC Office:
With 3:12 to play in the third quarter of the Georgia at Texas game, Texas intercepted a pass at the Texas 46-yard line and returned it to the Texas 9 yard line. Texas was flagged for committing defensive pass interference on the play which resulted in Georgia maintaining the ball with a first down. The game officials gathered to discuss the play, which is permitted to ensure the proper penalty is enforced, at which time the calling official reported that he erred, and a foul should not have been called for defensive pass interference. Consequently, Texas was awarded the ball at the Texas 9 yard line. While the original evaluation and assessment of the penalty was not properly executed, it is unacceptable to have debris thrown on the field at any time. The disruption of the game due to debris being thrown onto the field will be reviewed by the Conference office related to SEC sportsmanship policies and procedures.

I get this point, and that is a good practice.
But the only reason they overturned it is because they reviewed and non-reviewable play by looking at the replay on the stadium’s big screens. That’s not right.

This right here and Georgia would have run a play had the field not been littered with trash. Kirby also mentioned the initial call was holding not PI, PI can be picked up holding cannot. All around clown show.

The problem is that the refs huddled, then the PI was announced and that would likely have ended it but after the trash delay they huddled again and reversed it.

This is the part they should add to the end of the statement.

Statement from the SEC Office: In addition, every official involved in this game will be suspended for the remainder of the season & an evaluation for any further employment will be conducted by the SEC in the off season.

Filled water balls are actually more dangerous by far than empty beer cans.

It was an automatic penalty that should have been called. No excuse for every benefit that UT got in that scenario that were all against the rules, even if the initial PI penalty was incorrect.

The whole sequence of events should be extremely embarrassing to the SEC, but they don’t get embarrassed.

those officials and that call just changed football games for the worse

they set an insanely bad precedent, and now leagues will have to double down and extra enforce penalties for fans throwing stuff on the field to try and clamp it down (so some fan base is going to get a horrible call like last night, then get an extra 15 yard penalty called on them after for a double whammy)

can you imagine the Saints/Rams no call after this?

and it’s even worse because the booth referee guy said, quote, “someone had the guts to speak up” … guts? during the delay but not during the initial call and huddle? it made it look like they were influenced by or scared of the fans, that’s the opposite of guts…whole thing is joke.

also, imagine this sequence in reverse, what if after the beer cans and fans throwing the tantrum refs reverse a close controversial right call to a wrong call…

didn't see the full replay but this was posted on the sec rant.
If one of yall could comment on this:

quote:

If that’s the case, I’d be curious to know why they moved the ball 15 yards forward and waited over 90 seconds before any ref said anything.

And beyond that, why didn’t they call OPI when they changed the call?
