Can't hijack off of The Levee's thread since he was going the opposite direction. I love cooking with full on firewood, it's all I've done for a decade. I have an OK Joe's Bandera, it's been great. I paid $299 for it at Walmart 8 years ago and it just kept working. The cabinet is a little small for things that are long, like a 15 lb brisket, but otherwise it's been easy. Not the thickest metal or nicest construction, hence a few failure spots starting to show up.
I'm willing to spend up to $2K on something better - any suggestions? Nashville area. I did a google search and so far I'm finding trailers, don't need one that big, and things nowhere near me. I'll keep searching, but if anyone has a setup they like, please share. I keep it on the back deck on some grill pads, it can be really heavy but not ridiculously enormous.
I like a cabinet offset style vs. barrel offset because I find it has better heat distribution, but I figure in the price range I'm looking I might can go reverse flow and have it work no matter the layout. I'm open to whatever if it is also easy to grill on.

While it’s neither cabinet style nor reverse flow, the Gen 2 Old Country seems awesome. Played with one at Academy, they’re a significant upgrade over the previous offerings (Brazos, Pecos, etc.)

Check out Lyfe Tyme pits. They have a combo traditional offset with a cabinet in your price range. Not sure of vendors close to you though.

I feel like I can trust you.
I do like that combo offset to the cabinet. The closest retailer to me is Starkville, that might be an option with a field trip.

I have one. Dad bought it in ‘93 and left it to me when he passed 3 yrs ago. It still looks brand new and gets used a loy. Replace wooden handles and paint every once in a while. I highly recommend.

Look up Allen’s Welding in North Louisiana. I have a reverse flow from him, maybe 3-4 years old. A little drive for you but it’s excellent and cheap for what you get.

I’ve seen some great deals on market place for used high end stick burners. Someone near me has a 2500 unit used for 900, probably could be had for 700.

These guys are up by you. A little pricey but nice.
They definitely have some style, not sure they have a model that is clicking for me.
Klose look alright, their website is crap and they are in Houston though. I'll see if I can figure out how to not have a page crash while looking at models.
Thanks for the ideas!
