Nuss running more

Why is Nuss not running more ? Is it by design or dictate by Coaches or is it because he cannot recognize the opportunities ?

Just my assumption: if it’s the same reason why he’d rather throw the ball away instead of taking a sack, then it’s probably because he doesn’t want to get hit. Take a -2 yard sack> throw a pick…

I guess there’s another reason . He doesn’t want to get hit ? I don’t think this is a factor because he takes numerous hits while passing .

Part of it is definitely that he thinks he can make some throws into tight windows that would go for more than him running.

A mixture of both?
There's been times they've called read plays where he could have pulled it picked up yardage but he doesn't.
There's been times on those read plays where a DE has on multiple occasions, crashed down so hard after the running back that they are giving zero attention to Nuss. That's where Sloan should specifically call those plays and tell Nuss you're keeping it because they're not paying any attention to you.
And there's been times like Saturday where the seas completely parted with a free path to the endzone and he either didn't see it or just has more faith in his arm than legs and refused the free yardage.
Regardless, there's instances of yardage to be found that both he and the coaches aren't taking advantage of.

It’s simple. Just look at the depth chart.

I tend to agree that he been told not to run due to a lack of confidence in the backup situation , however, I do not think they can continue to win with this scheme ! The Coaches are being too risk averse ! With the rules protecting the QB’s nowadays, they are hurt passing the ball and not running .

Even Kelly addressed this in is news conference as a problem that need to be addressed ! Why not face it ?

I think BK is trying to keep him healthy, but he's going to have to run vs Bama

It seems to be the opposite of Daniels early on. People said that he needed to run less and throw more - concerned that he would get hurt.
But he gave in to his 1st instinct as Nuss seems to be doing.
Daniels adapted with time and hopefully Nuss will also.

The OP's question doesn't seem to take Kelly's mention into account. If Kelly says it needs to be addressed, it seems clear that the issue is in Nuss and not the coaches wanting him not to run. So the real question is whether it is a lack of recognition (maybe), Fear of getting hit (I don't think that is it at all), or simply thinking he can make throws that will result in more yardage than the run(I think that is most likely).
Also, there is a difference between addressing a situation and random people starting 2 or 3 threads a day (I know that may be a bit hyperbolic) on a fan sight about it.

Probably because he never had to before. He is the son of a NFL old school QB coach. Probably was always told to keep his eyes downfield, go through progressions, and deliver the ball to one of the options on the play. If no options are there, get rid of the ball and don't take a sack.
Most kids these days, at an early age play QB because they are the best athlete on the team. If the first option on a play isn't there, they are encouraged to take off and run. Look at Jayden Daniels, would always take off quickly if the options were not there, Kelly and Sloane had to teach I'm to go through progressions and trust his arm to throw into smaller windows.

He’s a fricking pocket passer who would prefer to extend a play to make a downfield throw. We don’t need him scrambling, getting hurt and having to rely on young Rickie.

Just doesn’t look like he’s comfortable running. I think the more games he gets under his belt, the more comfortable he’ll become with scrambling.
Burrow was a better runner his second season at LSU.

Even the commentators the other night were saying he needed to run more. There were several instances against Ole Miss when, on 3rd down, he could've easily run for a first down yet threw incomplete.

I think its because he never thinks about it. For example, a facilitator point guard might pass up an open look and the fan will say "Why didn't he shoot?" and the PG will say that he wasn't looking for a shot, he was looking for an open teammate. Now a more experienced PG will be able to look for open players while also being aware of when they have an open look. Basically I am saying that I think NUss gets locked into finding a WR and never looks down to look for lanes to run. As he gains experience he will be more comfortable looking to run like he did on that one 3rd down vs OM.
Hell on the OM run you could tell that he barely noticed that he had room to run and then kinda panic ran. It was like the coaches on the sideline had been telling him to run when its open and he was like "Someone get open! Holy shite I'm open! I need to go!"

I predict Nuss is going to pick up at least 2 first downs this week with his legs, one of which will be the result of Landon Jackson crashing down so hard on a read option an Nuss will just run right by him. I feel like the one run he had against Ole Miss showed him he could do it, and he will hear a lot about that this week in practice.
Posted on 10/17/24 at 8:36 am to kew48
I would bet he doesn't run much, because Kelly doesn't want him to run. If Nuss gets hurt, he has to go with Collins (who has almost no experience) or Swann (who just isn't very good).
Did you see Kelly's face after that 14-yard scramble? He looked like he shite himself and had a heart attack all at the same time.

If Nuss gets hurts, LSU does not win another game.
All of our success depends on Nuss' health.
