Wasn't an ideal time at 2:30, but we did play yesterday, and lost.
We were down 20 in the second half and the scrubs stormed back to tie it late, but Elfrid Payton and some other guy can't make free throws so we lost.

Zion had a really nice alley-oop from CJ that he threw down.
Murray looked good getting his shot (oh no the dreaded mid range shot, can't wait to here everyone bitch about it). And i say that in jest. Murray's mid range game is more like SGA's, not BI. If BI would work to get closer to the rim and take his mid range shots from 15ish feet or closer like SGA and Murray does, then i dont' think people would bitch about it as much.

Other than that, we didn't look all that good. Very sloppy on offense with 24 turnovers.

We shot 37 threes yesterday. We shot 40 in the first preseason game. I'm sure that makes most of you cream your pants, but...we were 9-37 for 24% and 12-40 for 30%.
I'm not saying i don't want to shoot more 3's, but I brought it up before that you don't just shoot more 3's just to shoot them. If you take 34 threes and 80-90% of them are considered good shots, that's better than taking 40 threes where maybe 60% of them are good shots.
What I mean by that is I do'nt want to see someone setting a screen for Herb and he takes two dribbles and shoots a 3. That's not a good shot for him. He took 2 3's yesterday off the dribble. That's not his shot.
CJ has earned the right to take pretty much whatever 3 he wants, but there were a few yesterday where he pulled the trigger to quick and could have set his feet better with the time he had, and i'd bet money he'd give the same critique of himself b/c he talks a ton about practicing getting his feet and shoulders squared up properly. And as i said, he's given the benefit of the doubt so i'm not going to bitch about CJ shooting 3's.
JRE shoudln't be playing at all in a regular season game, but the dude took 6 threes yesterday. That's never good offense.

Another important thing when trying to shoot more 3's is making sure you make a good pass when you kick it out. Zion made several shitty passes on kick outs. throwing balls at their feet or passing it way to slow and giving the defense time to get there. Little things like that make a huge difference. Jose got a pass that he had to jump for in the corner, and didn't bring the ball down so he could get the three off. That's not an ideal shot, and it happened b/c of a bad pass. Klay Thompson is the best ever at that, and he makes it look easy, but it's not easy to catch a ball above your head and never bring the ball down below your face. That's not a normal shooting motion. The shot i'm talking about from CJ where he had more time was rushed b/c it was a bad pass in transition. Had Herb just waited a half second longer, which he easily could have and gotten the pass to CJ once he was closer to setting up properly it would have been a better shot as CJ was wide open. CJ probably should have taken a dribble and taken his time, but we've seen him drill plenty of transition threes where he looks like he's leaning forward when he shoots.

I know it's just 2 games, preseason games at that, and no i'm not overreacting to anything. Just pointing out what i've said before that you dont' just shoot more 3's to shoot them. The uptick in 3's taken should be from more C&S threes, and I feel like i've seen too many 3's off the dribble or rushed C&S threes with someone in their face, and from spots on the court that maybe aren't ideal for that person.

Just 2 games, but the shooting from the main roster is poo poo.
CJ, Zion, Herb, Murray, Hawkins, Jose, Theis, those are all guys who will play regular minutes. They are 14-46 in those 2 games, 30.4%
JRE not included above is 2-9, which is way too many 3's for him, but i'll just chalk it up to he's just pretending to play the way Trey would. Obviously would help that percentage if Trey was playing.

it was a good look at what “playing small” looks like when they aren’t shooting well. Almost impossible to win

It's preseason and it's basically going to be vanilla for the most part and we're without our wings. Miami games are always scrappy games. That game didn't really tell us much.

I knew about it that morning, but with the Saints game happening at the same time I had lost track of it until last night

My excitement level for this team this season is pretty damn low, unfortunately

One interesting observation I saw was that it seemed like Hawk was put in the doghouse by Willie after a 4 minute stint in the first half and at least for that game it looked like he fell behind Green. Not sure if anyone else observed this, I’m guessing it was due to defense in the first half if anything. 2nd half his D looked better.

willie green is coaching for his job, and "he doesnt play defense" is an easy crutch when youre in that situation. well guess what...they didnt draft him for defense. they drafted him to shoot

you can bang on griffin all you want, but he's got to do something here. the floor for this team is pretty fricking low, even if the ceiling is high. if i was going to make one preseason prediction, its that willie green is fired before the trade deadline

Man I would be in the fire Willie camp for sure and agree with you that we drafted him for his offense. If that is what happened it would be BS and I agree Griffin better be ready to step in if he resorts back to last season Willie instead of 5 out get up lots of 3s new Willie where we need Hawk badly for that.

Zion is one of the oddest athletes I have ever come across. His physical composition and conditioning level change so rapidly. It is obvious he is not in prime condition but still dominates for stretches. His conditioning is a concern starting a season where his defense is critical to lineups they want to run.

Glad you say it in jest cause it's a silly point

Last season, 38% of BI's shots were at the rim or from 3.

Last season, 55% of Murray's shots were at the rim or from 3.
