I’m seeing a lot of talking heads saying our secondary will struggle to hold up vs miss’s wideouts and I don’t blame them for having that take especially with our safety play. The safeties absolutely concern me I just hope they play disciplined and don’t blow their assignments. However, in terms of the corner room I actually have confidence they can hold up. Zy alexander is healthy now he’s a good cover corner with nice length and physicality he should hold up vs Tre Harris.

Ashton stamps is a young guy but we’ve seen flashes of good play from him he showed out vs a strong usc wr room. We know the athleticism and talent is there with stamps he’s sticky in coverage it’s just a matter of playing the ball in the air.

Pj woodland is a talented freshmen corner. He a lil undersized weight wise but he is feisty as hell and a twitchy athlete. I trust zy has the length to battle with Harris and stmsps /woodland have the athleticism to hang with juice wells.

Thoughts ??

Yes. What you’re feeling is called “hope”

I have lost a lot of money betting on LSU because of “hope”

Corners will be fine as they have most of this year. It's the blown assignments and pass coverage of the LBs and Safeties that worries me.

I truly hope we have Atkins in for Penn on passing downs. Penn’s speed makes him a liability in pass coverage but with how fast ole miss runs their offense it may be hard to rotate

I think the defense gets it done. But its not going to be pretty.

I’ve been more worried woth safety play than what ive seen from the corners so far.

And "hope" isn't a plan.

Just tell Penn to fake an injury when we need to get him out.

The edges of LSU's defense have been fine. The DEs have performed well and the CBs have been competitive. Even against USC they were in position most the game. USC's guys just made some good plays.

The middle of the defense has been LSU's problem and it gets progressively worse at each level. The DTs haven't been dominant. But they haven't been the big liability most thought they would either. The LBs have moments of good play...then just as easily are completely lost and out of the play with a modicum of misdirection. The safeties just aren't good. Ryan looks like a little kid playing out there and doesn't want to hit anybody if he can avoid it. Burns just wants to do his own thing. Gilbert has moments of solid play...then gets lost. Spears is just young.

If so, I think it is with a "boom or bust" approach. No QB likes pressure, but Dart is below average if you can get some heat on him. The only thing LSU's defense has been really good at this year is rushing from the edge and forcing fumbles.

I think you are going to see a lot of blitzing. That is going to expose LSU to some big plays...and Ole Miss will hit some. But the hope is that the blitzing will also lead to a few key turnovers. Sitting back, playing zone, and just hoping to bend but don't break isn't a great approach. LSU's offense is good, but probably not good enough to win a no holds barred shootout. You're seeing on Sunday's now how remarkable Daniels, Nabers and Thomas were. You can't expect this group to match that level.

They need to start Gilbert in place of Ryan. Gilbert hasn’t been great, but shows flashes. Ryan on the other hand… man he just needs to come off the field. He doesn’t have it at all.

Yea games like this is what we let go of house and brought in Blake baker. You can’t sit back and play soft zone against good offenses. You gotta play an attack style of defense and challenge their wideouts at rhe LOS. I actually do think our offense is capable of hanging in a shootout with just about anyone esp with the emergence of Durham. And our offense can def fill up the score board in front of the Death Valley crowd but hopefully with baker we cause some havoc and don’t let them get in the 40’s like last year

Contest throws. No one running free in the secondary and when they throw the deep ball up for grabs look back and play the ball. Zy returning is important. The DL/LBs getting after Dart's arse all day and dropping him will help immensely.

i sincerely hope our Coaches have taken the time with our players to review game film of themselves and can make improvements. If not, we will have to score a bunch to stay in this game

I am fine with the corners...are they lockdown? no. But they are doing fine. It is the safeties that are killing us.

If Tre Harris plays, it's going to be a problem. Probably need to double him

Hopefully Stamps will turn his head and look for the ball. He typically is in position to make a decent play or to make an interception but he rarely looks for the ball.

I'm seeing this all over college football. Do they not teach to turn around and look for the ball anymore?
