Any news reports on the house whose roof was ratchet strapped down?

Did the roof hold or get blown away?

Im sure his shingles that were held down under the straps are okay. It's like $6 for a single shingle so we should give this man a round of applause honestly.

What's the point of your roof staying on if you still get 12+ feet of water?

Wouldn't the tension from the straps Crack the shingles? I mean...interesting idea.

I’ve seen it done in the past where there was protection between the straps and the shingles. Personally I’d have something that acts as a spacer between the straps and the shingle to protect the ridge. I’d also have some type of vibration restriction in the straps so they don’t start oscillating in high wind.

Good point

Honestly, if the home is built to the current Florida building codes put in place after Andrew, the roof flying off isn't really the big concern.

back when I lived in the woods of North Lake Charles, my redneck uncle next door to me did this 20 years ago during hurricane Rita for his front porch lean-to on his fixed up double wide and it saved it while others in the area with similar setup porches/trailers blew away so its a tried and true method. Good for him for thinking about it !

Foundation is still there. Just gut the inside.

Yeah I’d be more worried about the damage from the straps. Especially at the edges and gutters. Interesting concept for something like a mobile home or shed though.

Yeah you can see the neighboring roofs intact.
This wasn't a true test.

Isn’t he from Puerto Rico and had a bad experience there? Dude just said never again.

All his neighbors lost their roofs but his is still perfect

Yall are looking at this the wrong way. The guy was trying to literally keep the roof over his head, thereby avoiding catastrophic damage and saving his house. You think he's worried about some shingle repairs? I know I wouldn't be. I'd be ecstatic for the opportunity to make shingle repairs.

There was an old baw between Lacassine and Welsh on 90 that ratchet strapped his single wide down for Laura. His trailer was still there after the storm.

Straps aren’t tight enough to damage shingles. You wouldn’t put much of a bind on them at all
