Those Texas deer will fool you with the little bodies. A buck that only weighs 120# will make a set of antlers look huge when in reality they are not. I shot one on a lease we had in Albany a few years ago that was chasing a doe. I would have bet you my rifle he was a 160” buck. When I got to him. He was a 110” deer that weighed 100#.

I killed two of those little hill country bucks last year. Giant racks and then you realize it’s a 120# body.

I think Rize is more south Texas with way bigger deer though.

This is from my ranch in Brooks county by the King Ranch. I do have a lease in Junction also but the deer are not near as nice.

I agree. Younger deer but in the 140s. Those brows have to be 5 or 6 inches. G2s and 3s are 8plus. Decent mass. Decent main beams. Been a while since I've hunted south Texas but he's one to let go and see what he could do. Could be a legit monster in 2 years.

Yeah, he’s definitely young and has potential. Him being a 10 that young carries a lot of weight in my eyes as well.

Tell me more about that Primal you have on that .308.

Would you change your mind if you could swap it?

I like it because it goes up to 46 cal. I may put a Hyperion on it later and keep the primal as an overall backup can.

Rize, you know much about Leakey and the deer pop? Junction isn't to far.

Man I’m not too sure about just yet. Just got on my lease this April.

The whitetail we have aren’t that impressive but I’m spoiled with my South Texas place. Decent numbers but I see 30 to 40 deer per hunt in South a Texas sometimes and I’ve only seen 6 to 7 in Junction.

Lots of Aoudad and Axis though.

Gotcha, I have access to about 30 acres there but haven't had time to run feeders or cams.

Let me know if you come across any other leasing opportunities. I am on the lookout for next season.

Body size alone that would be 2.5 years old in my neck of the woods (Union Parish). Looks to be roughly 155 lbs. Texas I would guess 3.5 years old

No clue on score I never look at racks

Leakey should have a large population but they’ll be on the smaller side unless you have a big place and can supplement heavy with protein. Lots of axis and some aoudads too. Im in the next town over between Camp Wood and Rock Springs.
