I’m not expecting a natty, but a CFP appearance & a playoff win would be a major success.

We’re gonna beat Ole Miss. ( )
Another big win on the road at Arky
Texas A&M is up next..

Brian Kelly's Undeniable Success In Year Three
LSU head coach Brian Kelly enters his third season leading the Tigers' football program. Throughout Kelly's coaching career, it is well-documented how elite he is at building a program from the top down. In his 34 years as a collegiate head coach, Kelly has proven he can quickly take a program to national prominence. After winning two Division Il national championships at Grand Valley State, Kelly moved into the Division I level at Central Michigan. Since then, BK has shown Year Three is when his program-building prowess takes shape. The following is a look at Kelly's record in his first two years, followed by his team's accomplishments during his third season as a Division I head coach:

Central Michigan (2004-06)
Y1: 4-7
Y2: 6-5
Y3: 9-4 (won first MAC Championship in school's first appearance; led his team to first bowl appearance since 1994)

Cincinnati (2007-09)
Y1: 10-3
Y2: 11-3
Y3: 12-0 (led the Bearcats to their first 12-0 regular season and an appearance in a NY6 bowl game - Sugar Bowl)

Notre Dame (2010-21)
Y1: 8-5
Y2: 8-5
Y3: 12-1 (National Championship appearance vs Alabama)

I believe we are 1-1 against teams with a pulse. We desperately need to beat Ole miss to consider this season a success. The thought of losing to USC and Ole piss in the same year makes me nauseous.

I suspect with the other programs he did not hire a useless defensive staff like he did here for the first two years. I think he has righted that ship, and we are headed in the right direction, but I can't see this year being a great year. I hope I am wrong.

The transfer rules we have now weren't in place then. I think because of those rules he was able to expedite the "rebuild". Last year was the year to seriously compete for a championship and he blew it because he could not find a way to put just an average defense on the field. From a personnel standpoint this year's defensive group is really not that different from last year's group. In fact, it may be less talented given Smith and Wingo are probably better than anyone at DT now. Yes, even though Smith didn't do much last year. Yet, Baker has at least been able to field an average defense.

I never thought before this season, and still today, this was a playoff team. I thought the schedule was favorable enough to at least give LSU an outside shot at the CFP, but the loss to USC probably ended that (it's hard to see LSU going through the rest of the season with only 1 more loss)

Ultimately, I think he made the mistake of believing LSU just "recruited" itself for the most part and all he had to do was show up and take advantage of that. He realized after last season that even though LSU still carries a ton of weight in the state/region, you still have to have the big time recruiters to get them in. He's also realized that sometimes you might have to take a fringe guy who is a freak athlete but may not be the smartest guy in the room. The new defensive staff is helping do a great job recruiting, but LSU is probably another two years from really being back in the CFP mix.

BK has not won 10 regular season games yet. Win 10 this season and it's a success. It also means we may have secured a playoff spot.

Barring anymore injuries this team should continue to improve as the season progresses. Competition increases too so that's the challenge and we have little margin for error.

It’s definitely possible, but not a given.

With this defense, this is an 8-4 team. Probably lose to Alabama and Ole Miss and one other game that isn’t expected.
