The governing system in EBR doesn’t work.

The article in the we BRBR newsletter this morning points out just how flawed the way our parish works.

BREC is asking for a big tax renewal even though they can’t get their audits in time. They also can’t access state and federal funding until they do.
They also are being investigated under the public meetings law and for hiring the lead guy’s cousin as CFO.

Meanwhile our DA is struggling to make ends meet. He is financed through the CP Council and he can’t hire the prosecutors he needs.

BREC just rolled forward their property taxes giving themselves a five million dollar a year hike. The DA is begging for help. The problem is our system is broken. We need crime addressed and not more splash pads or more property.

Fighting crime is a near-unanimous citizen priority in this parish. McCollister says an underfunded DA’s office is more deserving of our tax dollars than a mismanaged and incompetent parks department.
