I’ll have the full payroll spreadsheet in the OP tomorrow.

Thank God this season is over.

ETA: please trade for a SS. No more Arcia

Seconded on replacing Arcia, but he was far from the only problem.

The strategy at the plate simply isn’t reliable in the postseason.

It’s not a good approach in the regular season either unless you’re hitting 320 homers. A serious philosophical evaluation needs to occur offensively for sure.

Way way too many strikeouts and not enough walks. The sell out for EV is a little questionable to begin with but if you’re not hitting homers it’s going to lead to awful results.

Need more consistent bats. New hitting coach. New manager with more energy. Drop the dead weight from the team. Trade Sale. He won’t be healthy again after this.

Maybe next year, let’s not have our a starting lineup only play 6 games together

Arcia has to go.

ETA- In 2023 his bat fell off of the face of the Earth after the trade deadline. His glove was still good enough to deal with it and feel he would fix his approach in the off-season.

While I don't feel he was as good defensively as he was in 2023, statistically he was better in 2024, by 0.8 dWAR, which isn't insignificant. That defensive improvement did not make up for his performance at the plate tho.

I think a change of scenery would be good for the guy, or at least a new hitting coach regardless if that coach is wearing a Braves jersey or not.

If the team puts up a white banner next year a la 2010/2012 I'm gonna be pissed.

Maybe MLB will go back to the 2023 balls.

Doesn’t explain why the whiff rate increased so much for us

Kiley McDaniel and Eno Sarris have both suggested in the last few weeks (slightly differing versions of this theory) that the rough theory around the sport is that the Braves philosophy in 2023 (especially early in the year) was to sit slider no matter the count figuring eventually they were going to get one. They absolutely destroyed sliders in the zone and rarely ever chased them. First half of 2023 they had a team OPS of over .900 against sliders. Second half of the season teams became afraid of throwing them sliders and slurves and just started pounding fastballs against them and the Braves adjusted. And remember the conventional wisdom in the sport recently has been elevated fastballs and low offspeed stuff. So visually if you’re sitting on one or the other it’s easy to differentiate. The Phillies flipped the script on them again and went back to a slider heavy approach in the NLDS but didn’t throw them for strikes often, instead throwing low fastballs for strikes and sliders for balls. Braves got caught in between and we know what happened.

League picked up on it and threw the Braves the third most fastballs in the lower third of the zone this year and almost double the amount of sliders out of the zone they saw in 2023. Since Braves couldn’t sit on the slider or differentiate as well with the fastball locations, they went from 2nd in wRC+ vs. off speed to 25th this season.

Obviously some is much weaker personnel but the cat and mouse game makes a lot of sense.

Full disclosure: I like Antho and I think our org in general is quite solid, especially when it comes to pitching development, but we should have kept Freeman, Dansby, and Contreras. The front office was out-thinking themselves here.

This season was mostly a nightmare to follow. We seemed to get fricked on every front imaginable.

Bro, he was literally the best pitcher in baseball this year. He's obviously somewhat injury prone (like pretty much any pitcher), but you have to roll the dice with him next year under a very reasonable contract. He's basically getting paid what Charlie Morton has made the last few years.

If the Braves had to be put out by any team, I’m glad it was San Diego. Personally rooting for them and Detroit to go all the way

Time to bring in Jonah Hill from Moneyball to figure out what we need at SS and LF.

Wasn't the original premise to try and find cheap guys to replace the production they lost? Not very hard to replace the production at SS and LF this season.
