Got drawn for a January date for a rice field blind here. First time drawn here. Know nothing about the area or what to expect out of it.
Any info on it out there?
Seems like it’ll be fairly easy hunt. Unless the birds won’t be there.

I got drawn as a first timer too. Piggybacking on your thread to see if anybody has recommendations on a budget friendly place to book for a one night stay the night before the hunt.

First timer here too for a Nov marsh hunt. Looks like the best options for a reasonably priced place to stay are hotels in either Crowley or Abbeville or Airbnb’s in Lake Arthur. Nothing came up in Gueydan

LINK I did Marsh hunt last year and it was spectacular. This is where I stayed. Hunted and came back to an amazing cooked breakfast. Do it the right way. Place is very nice and clean.

Yep. I was selected for a December Marsh Hunt.
I've done a teal hunt years ago and it was incredible. Have never been during big duck season. I would imagine on a typical year, that i would be solid. Definitely looking forward to the hunt. I am also an out of towner and am interested in places to stay.

Unless it has gotten 1000x better DO NOT stay at the Sunnyside Motel in Kaplan. Blood on the mattress and floors. Slept on top of the bed spread.

This thread made me rush to check my email and I did not get chosen. The first year I entered after I realized they changed the process to digital I was selected for their first marsh date of the season and a rice field hunt. I ended up not claiming the rice hunt but the marsh hunt was an awesome experience.
Supposedly the next year the guides were no longer going to be able to take the hunter's to the blinds in their mudboats, I haven't heard if they received another exemption or not, but hopefully they are still running at least a couple of the wooden mudboats.

Give Barry Toups at Ms Rose B&B in Kaplan a call, close and very nice rooms. do not stay at motels in Kaplan, roaches as big as mallards. (337) 652-8870. Tell him Don told you to call. I hunted there i a rice filed blind dropped off by LDWF, decoys are out , blind roomy and clean nice easy, easy hunt just didn't have a lot of birds but we shot well at what came in. Good luck!!
