All time great no denying that but his age is starting to become a problem. This is a problem the Saints need to address.

Hasn’t it been addressed? He’s playing much less because he is much less impactful than he used to be. I’m not sure what else they can do. Do you want them to waive him??

In a way they are. Mickey didn't plan for the inevitable drop off with his cap implications, but the coaching staff is addressing with his snap count. Last year he played in all 17 games, but only played 70% of the snaps. This year he is down to 39% of the defensive snaps. The coaching staff has to work with who they have on the roster, and he is an invaluable part of the roster the other 6 days of the week, and looks like they are using him more as a pocket collapsar on passing plays or as a bigger DE on running plays when he does see the field

He hasn’t played much this year. And when he does, he has played some DT with Young and Granderson playing DE on passing down. That’s about the best we can expect from him at this point. He might be the 2nd best DT on the team.

Would have preferred to not have paid him $13,000,000/year after production fall off in the first place.

Agreed but i hate to see what dead money we would have taken on if he were released. And if I'm not mistaken, next year of his contract ain't much better.

No disrespect to his career, but he is not playing for what we are paying.

He was officially done after talking crap before the Vikings playoff game. He's been washed and he's just a personality now.

Wait until you find out what it’s going to cost to cut him.

Spot on. He's not getting traded or cut this year.

He had like 20 snaps week 2. He isn’t really playing

Right. He can’t get cut because of the implications. Who would want him in a trade? The coaching staff is doing what it can. Hopefully he can occasionally contribute, but clearly Granderson and Young are your primary DEs. Cam will spell them occasionally and play snaps as a rush DT. If he continues not to produce the snaps will reduce even further. It is what it is.

Obviously, he's not going anywhere this year, so lets start with next year. Right now he has a $20M cap hit in place for 2025 (last year on contract) and $15M in 2026 for void years/bonus money. Cut before 6/01/25, that 2025 number jumps to $24M and the 2026 number comes off the books. Cut post 6/01/25 his 2025 cap hit drops to $9M, but he'll have a 2026 cap hit of $15M.

Of course, all of the above assumes Loomis does not restructure his $12.5M 2025 salary and pushes more of that into the 2026 cap with void years.

They are addressing. Better than cutting him and taking the cap hit and if it cost them a bit to let him finish on his terms I am fine with it. The dude has been the absolute model for what you want a Saint player to be a represent the community. He is basically just playing for sure run downs now and is still effective in that role. Still a good player in that role just doesn't have any juice left to rush the passer. He will be in the NFL hall of fame.

They tried, unfortunately they screwed the pooch on TRex and drafted miserably with Davenport, Turner, and now Foskey (who is a special teamer only). Scouting is horrible.

Nope, FO are paying him for past production. FO is paying for past bad contracts...

I have no issues with what Loomis did with his contract, as there was really no alternative. I just hope he does us a solid like Ram and lets us put him on IR next training camp so we can spread his cap hit when he actually retires.

He has been one of the best Saints throughout his career. Hopefully he does the team right and restructures his contract or retires to save them the cap money.
