But we may he see his production now that perk is gone. Teams will game plan for swinson instead of perk.

You don’t think they’ve been game planning to keep edge rushers off their qb’s arse?

If they do that, it frees up Jones. I’m not worried about the pass rush. Weeks is plenty good at creating pressure up the middle on blitzes (though it’s frustrating he rarely finishes the play and over runs the QB). Maybe I’m crazy, but I actually think the defense might improve without Perk. There won’t be pressure on the coaches to force him into the game plan or positions he honestly isn’t suited to play in. It might free up others to take on responsibilities better suited to their strengths.

I don’t get why ppl keep saying this take. Perkins being out is massive but he was an off ball linebacker not an edge rusher. We sent him on blitzes at times but jones and Swinson are the edges

Swinson & Jones are both big issues for our opponents

Is it really that massive though? From my perspective he was constantly out of position and took a lot of plays off. Also, the stat sheet doesn't lie either, he wasn't making a bunch of tackles or anything. We can replace his 2 tackles per game pretty easily I think.

I like him, I just don't think its some huge loss like everyone is saying. He basically has zero production for 2 years now, at some point star players fill up the stat sheet and get their name called, you almost never hear his name called during the game.

This has been an issue since Dave Aranda left for all our blitzing defenders.

Teams that have been watching film already knew who to prepare for.

Perkins’ effect is overstated. If Savion continues to play well then it won’t allow offenses to shift all the help to Swinson’s side.

You make fair points. Yes, he didn't fill up the stat sheet and was not a perfect fit at ILB. However, he was a freak athlete, forcing OCs to account for his athleticism and scheme against him, which helped free the other linebackers. He is also instrumental as a spy against an elite running Qb's. Facing a guy like Milroe this year it would've been nice to have someone like Perkins to spy on him.

I'm sure UCLA game planned for the guy with zero sacks but didn't for the guy that had 3 the game before.

I honestly believe opposing OC's schemed to attack Perkins. They didn't scheme around him, they schemed at him. I do agree he will be missed in the spying role though.

Swinson has been the MVP on defense...

fair. We will definitely miss his ability to spy QBs like Milroe.. Inexplicably we didn't have him doing that at all in that game last year vs Milroe lol.

I down voted you for the simple fact that reading your post gave me a headache.

Yep and I would add Womack to the list.
