Fishing advice with 16' Center Console and 40hp outboard

I am possibly getting a 2006 16' aluminum Lake Sport center console with a 40hp Yamaha. Appreciating that distance and chop is not in my favor, are there any accessible spots for that size/powered boat to go red and speck fishing in south La??

Absolutely. What area are you closest to?

Head down to Leeville or Golden Meadow. You can launch and be in the marsh right away. With fall coming, you will find specks anywhere you can get to.

I currently live in Lafayette

The fishing is about to get good (may have already started) up close in vermillion bay around Cypremort point. You don’t have to go far in the fall. The Cove is just outside of the launch and the hammock is not much further east. It does get crowded though when the fish are biting. I wouldn’t recommend crossing vermillion bay in that though.
Trying to fish those close in areas during the summer will be tougher. I’d focus further east towards dularge/cocodrie in the summer.

If we can fish it in a kayak, you can most certainly do it in a small skiff!
Cypremort is close and real good in the fall. West cove isn’t a far drive from laffy either. Dulac/dularge or cocodrie a little further east to give a few more options. All depends on how far you want to drive

You giving advice on the outdoor board is fricking hilarious. Ain’t no way a pussy arse liberal soy boy like yourself knows anything about being on the water or in the woods. Take your man bun and your gay combat boots and go back to Whole Foods to finish your shift you POS

Congrats on the boat! Highly recommend staying inside the marsh in that boat. In fall and winter there are lots of opportunities to catch good fish in the marsh from dulac to point aux chene to leesville to hopedale/delacroix.
Aluminum boats do not have flotation if they take on any water. An experienced fisherman in Acadiana recently passed away when his 16' aluminum boat sank outside of vermilion bay this summer. Wind and seas unexpectedly went from flat calm to 2' chop. Motor died, boat turned sideways adrift, and eventually was sunk by waves. One of the two on board was rescued after he clung to a platform.
While a 16' aluminum boat does not have the size to handle any open water safely, the upside is you can trailer that boat ANYWHERE with ease. If it was my boat I would go to the hopedale/delacroix/biloxi marsh estuary I think its the best inside marsh fishery in the state where you dont have to deal with any open water with good launches and amenities.

Plenty of places in Hopedale, Delecroix without crossing big water. I go 10-15 times a year in a 16 ft Jon boat.

I have a 16ft CC with a 70hp
Golden meadow on down is perfect for your boat... enjoy the skinny water that the other guys cant get to

I been out in the woods and water since before you were born. Go ask your momma for an afternoon snack and get back to me when you start paying your own bills.

Port Sulphur...behind the school. Plenty around there you could fish.
Launch at Happy Jacks. Hit the points and drains coming into the canals.
Lake Hermitage. Haven't been that way in awhile but there were 2 launches in that area.

Leeville or Golden Meadow
Be careful in both these spots as we get into the time of year where the water is lower. A lot of the marsh near the Leeville public launch is shallow and a lot of the wide canals that feed into the main canals, headed out to Little Lake for instance, are super shallow. Same with Golden Meadow/Catfish Lake launch. Definitely dont go north of the launch. You can launch and head south. take the first right, then first left. you can fish all the drains into that canal heading south towards Plaisance Canal for redfish, trout and flounder. take it easy if you decide to venture into the marsh, some parts that have platforms can be decently deep ~10ft while other areas are really shallow. Once you get to Plaisance canal you can fish it towards catfish lake. Catfish lake has a bunch of platforms to fish, or there is a nice flat at the northeast side, or you can head to the south to blue bayou. Article with some golden meadow kayak spots, but i think all would be boatable for you: LINK
