“The Penguin” premieres on Thursday, Sept. 19 on HBO and – as with many shows on the channel – will hit Max simultaneously. So if you’re only a Max subscriber and not an HBO one, you can still check the show out at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT.

Starting this a bit early since they're releasing info for the audience

I'm pumped for this one

Longer than usual wait for episode 2 because it’s shifting to Sunday and taking Industry’s time-slot next week.

ETA: beat me

Yeah, not sure why they don't just start on Sunday? 10 days between episodes is weird

Was hoping for 10 episodes but I'm already all in on this.

Jets vs Patriots will probably be a snooze fest so I'll jump on this kind of early.

I was thinking the same since the finale for Industry is not this Sunday. Industry gets pushed back an hour for its remaining episodes because an encore of Penguin episode 1 is airing Sunday at 8pm.

Generally I agree. I only give a pass when serious Illness causes it (Spartacus, Black Sails). But I don’t really mind this one because for me personally, I thought Turturro was miscast for that role in The Batman. It also helps that it’s going to be flashback scenes.

On the MAX app last night I saw that his name change was actually Oswald "Oz" Cobb. So not much of a change as people thought. I'm sure they'll just call him Oz.

New interview with Reeves

quote:

In advance of The Penguin’s premiere on Max tonight, Reeves opened up about his Spielbergian origins, his inspiration for the upcoming Batman Part II, and what the hell possesses Colin Farrell when he becomes Oz Cobb.

quote:

The Inspiration for The Batman Part II

The intense division that there is right now. On the one hand, you say it’s a thing going on in the United States—and obviously Gotham is an American city—but really it’s worldwide. There’s just tremendous division, the way that the world gets its information, its news. Everybody is in their own silo. That sense of the environment of today, where it’s just very easy for people to be completely separate and at complete odds—that’s definitely one of the things that we’re looking at in Gotham. Some of that is just the way that society is, but some of that is intentional—and to the degree that that’s intentional, and how that fits into the larger picture of what the motivations behind that might be, that’s one of the things that we’re exploring as well.

One scene in particular called for his character to appear to be naked. "Marino is so twisted and brilliant. He was like, 'I made you a penguin penis,'" Farrell recalls with a grin. "I said, 'Really? They're not even going to see it. I don't know if I want to walk on set with a penguin penis.' And he was like, 'No, no, no, dude. It's detachable, it's Velcro. It's got a beak at the end of it.' So I had a penguin penis."

I was hoping the QR code on the ad for The Iceberg would take you to a site for The Iceberg, but instead takes you to the MAX website.

Always blows my mind to find that fans of properties care about details in said property

And it only happens on this board, and not at all in all fanbases of every IP in the history of fandoms.

Really enjoyed that but I am pretty partial to old school mobster mentality and doing whatever it takes.
