Are LSU Mechanical Engineering degrees respected?

My first semester's been a bit interesting. I changed majors from neuroscience during welcome week after finding out the neuroscience degree here honestly isn't worth shite since its just another psychology degree, and ended up switching to mechanical engineering. I'm passionate about it and love what I'm getting myself into, but my goals are to work for NASA or other space companies. If that fails, at least I'll have oil and petro to fall back on, but with the thought of transferring to a better school, are these goals obtainable? I know many people say that LSU MSME degrees hold weight with the right internships, but are the LSU connections and possible internships worth it considering a school like Purdue or Texas A&M are subjectively better engineering schools?
As of now I'm doing a research program under LaSPACE funded by NASA, so I'm thinking thats a good foot in the door and now I'm just applying for summer internships.
Thanks

If you’re good at it then it won’t matter.

If NASA is a goal, why not go to Embry Riddle to get a aerospace engineering degree, they place a lot of grads with NASA and their prime contractors

LSU Mech Engineering is very well respected but after about 5 years of experience no one is going to give a shite
You'll either be good at your job or not

Are you aware of the audience you're posing this question to? What kind of answer to you expect to get? I think yer supposed to go to plumber's school or something.

I hope so. My nephew has one.

Takes a hell of a lot more brains and less ADHD to get that degree than the one I got from LSU, that’s for damn sure.

Only by LSU alumni
(Kidding)
Anyone who cares after your first real job isn’t someone you want to work for

Yeah, you should definitely go to one of those instead
If you’re absolutely set on a career with NASA/SpaceX, I’d start looking at some job postings & see what degrees they are looking for. That might help you decide if ME is the right choice for you. A lot of options for an engineering grad with a >3.0 gpa

Any Engineering degree from LSU is worth it except for Industrial Engineering.

I graduated ME in 2012.
Definitely a lot of my classmates are in oil/gas, but at least one (out of....~100 that graduated that year?) works for NASA.
At least in my industry (upstream oil/gas), probably balanced between LSU vs Texas A&M grads.
Heavier lean towards LSU in Gulf of Mexico, may go the other way for US land.
Personal experience....I did not do any internships, because I took classes every summer after sophomore year to graduate in four years.
Very fortunate oil/gas was in a hiring spree at the time.
Definitely get internship experience, even if it means you have to take an extra semester/year.

yeah,
those I know with an LSU education don't diminish the reputation of the education reputation like UH grads do
now the personalities....,,,,

Seems like maybe Aerospace Engineering would've been the best path.
Kinda like Mechanical Engineering at NASA. Have a look at their careers page.
What exactly are you so passionate about? Bachelor of Sciency type stuff?

Depends on want to achieve in your career.
Do you want a very impressive career like aerospace or a defense contractor?
Do you want a job where you can maximize your career earning potential?
Do you want a career where you can do research/be a renowned professor?
These are very different careers. I chose the middle bullet…maximize career earning potential. It has worked out very nicely with an ME degree from LSU. .you should contact the placement centers for each prospective university that you are interested in and see which company’s recruit out of those schools.
I personally don’t think you can go wrong with a ME degree from any respected school. However, I am admittedly biased!

More so just working for a space oriented company. In my spacex internship cover letter I wrote something along the lines of wanting "to play a role in this century's advancement of human technology and spaceflight history." My cousin just graduated from ULL with a masters in ME and got a job testing materials for NASA in Alabama. This was part of the inspiration for my late switch. I did also plan on adding a minor in aerospace engineering. As for ME jobs in space companies I haven't had trouble finding ME internships to apply to, so I figured the jobs were there.

NASA or SpaceX need all types of Engineering degrees. My dad was an Auburn EE who spent a lifetime at NASA. Mercury all the way to the Shuttle. If you’re good it doesn’t matter where you went to school.
PS: if you’re wondering who is the best engineering school it’s GA Tech. At least in the South.

Definitely the first bullet, growing up being an astronaut was always my dream and I loved space, and obviously becoming an astronaut isn't a very secure career plan, but I really just want to work for a BIG company like NASA, SpaceX, Blue Origin or Lockheed
