This is huge... Will allow streaming and unfettered access to the internet.

Will be on all planes over the next couple of years

quote:

United Airlines said Friday that it plans to offer inflight Wi-Fi from SpaceX’s Starlink for free on its hundreds of jetliners, the biggest inflight internet deal yet for the SpaceX business.

The team-up comes as airlines have been investing in faster inflight Wi-Fi.

About time. What they have on most airlines now is a joke

The T-Mobile service on Lufthansa, Singapore, and United hasn’t been bad at all. Now, the authentication and hand off between devices is a different story. I never knew when I was getting texts, or not, only to find out I needed to reauthenticate midflight, etc.

I got an email along those lines earlier today from United. Hopefully the rollout is quick

Great news, but ridiculous that it could take a couple years to finish.

They need time to remove all the seat back screens, while they’re at it.

I'd imagine a decent amount of equipment to upgrade and they have over 1k planes in service

I've always preferred SW internet over United, but United Seating over SW. Hilarious that both are investing the the other over the next year or so

A good friend is an engineer for Honeywell Aerospace and he told me a few months back that they were worried Starlink was a major threat and was going to kill that segment of Honeywell's business. It looks like dominoes are starting to fall.
