Baton Rouge nostalgia: Book Warehouse on Florida Boulevard.

The preeminent bookstore in one of the more memorable shopping centers in Baton Rouge history.

What was the one that was on Perkins just west of College? Can’t recall the name. Was in a shopping center at that time

I went there a few times in college. Florida Ave was the shite. Wasn't it close to Dunkin donuts?

Claitors? Or something like that.
There was also Cottonwood near the Perkins overpass, but that's not a shopping center. Owner had health problems and tried to sell but there were a lot of issues with the financial side. Unfortunately, he passed away
2nd and Charles is decent for used books. Red stick reads could be the replacement of cottonwood, but they need to expand and are doing that very soon moving into a new space. Hope they can add a massive used section

I don’t think anything makes me as sad as when I pass where coffee call used to be and when I drive by old Cortana mall.
Really pissed about coffee call though I really wanted to bring my kids there after a football or basketball game on a cold fall evening for hot chocolate and beignets likeI used to with my dad and grandfather… :(
The new place sucks, still can’t believe they tore that building down

Coffee call is still great. Just hard when the original place was the best. Also, it is Walmarts fault
I go there often for a cafe au lait

Access was an issue.
Easy to get into, difficult to get out of.

Never could figure out what their business model was.

Gerald and his wife were the nicest people. Usually had eggs from their chickens and other items from home for sale.
Our kids were young, my wife was alive, and life was good.

I loved that store. My dad took me as a kid. Today marks the 8th anniversary of his passing…

Always went there after gorging on Panchos.

I know the one you are talking about. They had used books. They were near the old Pancho's buffet IIRC.
Before Barnes and Noble, there was a bookstore on College called Elliots I think. I want to say it was right next to the K&B where the Wal Mart is now.

Coffee Call is great, but I hate their location. Wish a local coffee shop like that had a more distinctive place that wasn't in the back of some dingy shopping center.

This. That my kids will never be able to experience that flag-raising, all-you-can-eat goodness and then go select some new books to read hurts my heart.

I still have multiple editions of LoTR from the 1960’s that I purchased from Book Warehouse for a song.
We used to ride our bikes up there as kids.
My kids will never know that kind of era and atmosphere.
