Solo Artists Who Put Out Better Music After They Left Their Established Bands.

Seems like most of the time, solo albums or music fall way short of their current or former band's work (for obvious reasons).
I'm hard pressed to think of artists off the top of my head who've put out better music than their previous band.

I like Peter Gabriel’s solo stuff more than when he was in Genesis.

Maybe Brian Eno.
Not the ambient elevator music, but his stretch of Here Come the Warm Jets - Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy - Another Green World is fantastic. Not that Roxy Music wasn’t good itself.

Neil Young as well, not that Buffalo Springfield and CSNY weren’t really good

Eric Clapton. His solo career was so successful that people think he was lead singer of Cream!

Peter Gabriel for me too
I also like David Crosby s solo albums better than CSN (but not the byrds)

Richard Thompson after he left Fairport Convention put out a ton of great music that was better than with FC.
Peter Case did the same after he left the Plimsouls

Of course not arguing against Sabbath, but Ozzy abd Rhoads were pretty special.

By the same token, Phil Collins' solo stuff is better than when he was in Genesis.

Wow. That's a bold statement. Lamb and England are REALLY strong albums. Classics, in fact, imo. It's objective, of course, but damn lol
I can't think of a solo artist who put out better music than their original band, but I will say that McCartney's "RAM" is pretty fricking close to the best solo album ever released after leaving a band.

Nothing Kenny Rogers put out post The First Edition topped "Just Dropped In" or "Ruby Don't Take Your Love To Town."
