When do you honor Heisman winners Burrow and Daniels at LSU?

I ask that because USC is retiring Caleb Williams jersey.

Former USC quarterback Caleb Williams has had his No. 13 jersey retired, USC announced on Thursday.

Williams had an incredible career at USC that included winning the Heisman trophy, before he was drafted No. 1 overall in the 2024 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears.

I would think at some point, you add two statues to go along with the Cannon statue likely after their NFL careers are done. What else should be done? jersey retirement? number and name on facade of stadium could be done fairly quick

Doesn't LSU has some rule that they have to graduate and they have to be removed 10 years or something like that

It's ridiculous the number of LSU statues for men's and women's basketball compared to football and baseball with far less success

Both are graduates. But Daniels already had his BA from ASU when he transferred here, and I'm not sure if he finished his Masters, which I guess is what would technically make him an LSU grad.

You don’t have to automatically build statues or retire numbers just because someone wins a heisman. There are plenty of great tigers who never had a chance at a Heisman because it’s predominantly a QB award. Every school should have their own criteria and process for these things. Should definitely wait a decade or two before making it happen. It would be very weird to make a statue of a 23 year old imo but some schools do it

The three men’s basketball players who have statues are all-time legends of the sport.

Burrow and Daniels will get statues eventually for being Heisman winners.

Joe Burrow got shut out by Alabama in Tiger Stadium. Does that mean we can't retire his number?

Florida never retired Tebow's jersey which I found odd. Guy was Mr. UF.

They only do a ring of honor at UF, which Tebow is in. Steve Spurrier changed it when he was the coach to let a player wear his previously retired #11.

LSU did something similar in 2007, which is why players still wear 37 & 21, but numbers that were retired before then can never be worn again - Billy cannon, Shaq, Maravich, etc

LSU says it is up to the coach’s discretion on re-using numbers, which seems like BK is set on not allowing #9 & #5.

quote:

Under a provision of the LSU jersey retirement bylaws established Jan. 1, 2007, the retirement of an athlete's jersey in a particular sport does not preclude a current student-athlete in that sport from wearing the jersey number in that or any other sport, subject to the discretion of the head coach. This provision applies only to jerseys retired after January 1, 2007.

The numbers worn by Maravich, Pettit, O Neal, Cannon and Bertman may never again be worn by future student-athletes in their respective sports.

LSU has a 5 year waiting period, so Joe Burrow is eligible in 2025 season & Daniels is eligible in 2028-29.

quote:

In order for a former LSU student-athlete to be recognized by a retired Number/Jersey, the following criteria must be met:
(1) The athlete will have completed intercollegiate competition for LSU a minimum of five (5) years prior to nomination.

You can look up the info on your own here: LINK

This isn’t something they just decide to do overnight. At LSU there is a nomination/selection process for the LSU Hall of Fame, Jersey retirements, & statues.

LSU has a 3 year process & graduation requirement for Hall of Fame induction. 5 year waiting period for Jersey retirement & 10 year waiting period for Statues.

Joe’s number can be retired after he is voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Why are so many LSU fans obsessed with retiring jerseys and numbers? It’s so incredibly stupid to do that. There’s a finite number of numbers to use.

Not necessary to be retired at LSU. He is eligible bc he won the heisman
