Going to see it tonight. Was a favorite movie of my childhood. Hope it's good.
Saw some mixed reviews but have been avoiding spoilers.

I never watched Beetlejuice growing up, and the trailer for the new one made me thankful.

the fact you say that is mind boggling - not saying anything bad about you or that situation, but the original was such a classic, and absolute greatness, it just genuinely blows my mind you never saw it.
saw the original last night and still laughed my arse off at Keaton.
also fun fact, the flat guy that leads the maitlands into the back the 1st time was the same guy that played the old man that Sandler was drinking in the bar with in the wedding singer

Beetlejuice is one of the most original, creative movies ever made, with an all time performance by Keaton. You're missing out.
I saw the sequel last night at an advanced screening. Enjoyed it overall. Takes a bit too long to get going and had a few too many different stories going on. Wish it would have stayed focused more, but the performances are great and its a lot of fun.

Tim Burton isn't for everyone. I'm not a big Burton fan.

that is fair enough - i will say, I found it to be a bit milder "Burton" than other offerings.

Part of my post in the other thread

Just got out an early screening It’s a fun enough movie for the family to go see, could see kids really liking it. Catherine O’Hara and Justine Theroux are pulling most of the weight comedically, even more so than Keaton as beetlejuice
Plot wise it feels like they had a bunch of rewrites bc there’s like 3 plots / villains that all just kind of work in the back ground and then get resolved incredibly easily. Not a whole lot of tension in the plot

That's true. I've always wondered what I would've thought of his movies if I was an adult the first time I saw them, but seeing Beetlejuice and Batman at five and six years old made me a fan forever. Tim Burton's style along with Danny Elfman's scores are a huge part of my childhood

I like beetlejuice but it’s very easy to understand why someone would hate it and write it off as Tim Burton being weird for the sake of being weird

Saw it.
I thought it was actually pretty well done for a sequel. They did a good job keeping the feel of the original. It kind of drags getting going. Monica Bellucci felt shoehorned in just so Burton could get his girlfriend a part.

Didn’t realize that was his girlfriend. That makes sense, because it really is a nothing role

Her intro scene was very promising and one of the more fun visual / burton flair from the movie but then yeah she just sort of floats around killing time until the end.
Really feels like there were 3 scripts that got blended into one and they just loosely tied them together

My wife is a huge Tim Burton fan and she will love it regardless of the plot. I'm not the biggest fan but I do like Beetlejuice and Edward ScissorHands

Was good. Not classic but good. Beatlejuice character cracks me up everytime.
Rest was ok.

Hope to see it this weekend, but we'll see.
I'm expecting a baseline of at least Ghostbusters Afterlife. Not asking for Top Gun Maverick or Spiderman No Way Home goodness, but a solid movie.
