We are replacing a toilet and our plumber suggests only looking at Kohler or American standard. There are a lot of models and most look the same. Does anyone have recs on anything in the $200 range?

Don't get the tall model. I can't stand my feet swinging while doing my business.

How short are you?

We have only ever purchased Kohler or American Standard.

I'm 5'11" short. My feet don't actually hang, but I just can't stand the tall model toilets.

18.5” oval. Don’t get kids 16.5” round one unless y’all are small people.
As far as the basket, the side handles sure do look a lot nicer but I have to replace at least one of those every year or so out of four toilets despite trying different brands and what not.

I’m referring to bowl size not height.

I've had standard in my past older house was like sitting on a 5 gallon bucket. My new house has the taller elongated kohler and its great.

Whatever you go with just make sure you get the handicap height. It's night and day different.

Vortens or Gerber Viper are solid. ADA height for the win.

Almost all Kohler and American Standard toilets at Lowes or Home Depot are 1.28 Gallons Per Flush.

Lowes carries a nice American Standard Champion that is 1.6 GPF.
My kids would always clog the damn builder's grade toilet in the hall until I put that one in there. They're 4 years into it and have never clogged it.

AS Champion at Lowes $199.99

Good news, if you shite a bucket of golfballs are you still in good shape.

I just recently replaced 3 of my 4 terlits. All 4 were the short 14" models. As my wife and I are getting older, it's getting harder to get up off the terlit AND it can be a little tricky sitting down in the dark on the short ones so we went with the 16.5". Her parents use the hallway terlit so we swapped it to make it easier for them. We kept one short one in the kids bathroom in case we end up with grandkids.

The new terlits are all American Standard. Oval bowl. Slow drop seats. 16.5" tall.

Damn how short are you? No offense.

I don't think I've ever had this happen in my adult life.

Bought an American Standard "Vormax" a few years ago. I won't bore you with how much I hated it but lets just say I don't buy anything made by AS out of principle now.

Replaced it with a Kohler Highline and have been very pleased. Used to clog the AS (among many other issues) 2-3 times a week. Haven't clogged the Kohler yet. Same 1.28gal flush too.

I will say that it seems all of these box store toilets have shitty hardware. The Kohler came with steel bolts/nuts/mounting bracket. This is just the way it is to cut costs. I could've sourced brass hardware if I really cared but instead I smeared silicone grease on every surface of steel. Not sure if this will keep it from rusting long-term but it should hold it off at least. Steel has no business being anywhere around a toilet. It WILL rust.

Both Kohler and AS are great products. My friend bought an older home, told me he thought the master toilet line might be plugged. I sent my plumber over there. The plumber said, it's the toilet, go get Kohler or American Standard. Replaced, that was it.

Oh to add, LCR plumbing was bought out by Home Depot years ago. Guess they still own it.

LCR sold off its sister company and HD operated it a dozen years here until eventually relocating it to ATL. Then killed it completely. So LCR is just unaffiliated with Home Depot as far as I know.

We are getting too old.... How on earth did we go from Arse weekend threads and Yoga pants threads to toilet choices and a solid # of responses are about toilet height so you can stand up after doing your business?

I don't like the oblong or oval toilet seats.. Round is much more comfortable to me.

And I like the shorter toilets too.
