I'm looking for recommendations for booking lodging. Are there any others besides Airbnb or Vrbo. What should we expect weather wise.

There are many cabin rental companies that you can rent directly from and save the fees. Just Google. It gets pretty crowded Thanksgiving week. Weather varies from low 70s to freezing. It is usually 50s for the high and lows in the high 30s. We did have snow or ice 3 of the 6 times that we have gone at Thanksgiving.

Thanks, would you recommend staying in town or further out?

First time in the area? Its a very drive able area but does get VERY crowded.

As said weather could really vary.

There's so many different places and areas to stay within 30-45 mins its really hard to give anyone direction without knowing what exactly you want specifically.

Personally, I'd stay away from town and save money and get some peace and quiet.

No we have been there once but we stayed in PF. Really don't want to stay there again. Sevierville or Gatlinburg this time. We will have a 17 & 13 year old also.

We always stay in the hills overlooking Gatlinburg, maybe 10 to 15 mins out. If you plan on going in to the park, it is better to stay on that side somewhere off of Ski Mountain Road.

We used cabinsusa.com and the cabin we had was absolutely amazing yet very expensive IMO

That’s their busiest week of the year. Extremely crowded. I’d pick another week. The week before thanksgiving is a good option. That’s what we did last year. There are tons of places to stay with a 5-10 minute drive.

We actually stayed at a hotel near the convention center since we didn’t have any kids with us. Price is better to do that if planning on eating out every meal.

Love the log cabin pancake house breakfast.

My wife and I are going to Gatlinburg next Friday. It will still be warm but for what I have seen the crowds should be small.

Yeah as long as schools are in, you shouldn't have a problem with crowds. Have fun.

It’s always pretty busy up there now, it won’t be packed like sardines, but traffic will still be a pain and places will be crowded.

Yeah I'm expecting crowds but I guess most places would be since it is the busiest travel week.

I was talking to the other guy. The week you are going is one of the busiest of the year. It's always miserable in the towns.

Bump

My wife and I just got back from Gatlinburg area very small crowds. Really nice. We went to dollywood and it was awesome . Not wait times on any of the rides. It is so cool having a wife that really likes roller coasters we had a blast.

You can rent a chalet for a fairly reasonable price but book as early as you can. They are popular places to spend holidays

I’ve rented cabins at Hidden Mountain Resorts a few times. Their properties are away from the hustle and bustle of town and seemed to have decent pricing. Views are nice in the fall.

We stayed at the River Terrace Resort next to the aquarium and Margaritaville. It's a little outdated but the staff was great and it's within walking distance of all the cool stuff.

I booked a cabin just up the hill from the welcome center. Just hope they don't sustain much damage Helene.
