It's Elon or bust at this point.

He's locked down the ecosystem like apple did with the iPhone.

did they also give back the federal grant money to the taxpayers?

We spent hundreds of billions to invest in EV and no one wants them. It’s just too much of a niche market.

We all know the answer to that question.

They're great for a commuter vehicle, but it just can't be a primary vehicle because of range limitations.

And people are struggling to pay bills, they aren't buying secondary vehicles just for commuting.

Add on top of that, the EVs are often ugly and expensive, and here we are.

You're right, it's a niche market right now.

Basically it will end up as a service vehicle which all I see Ubers drive now. M

and Elon has effectively scratched that itch.

I agree at this point everyone who wants an EV probably already has one.

Until a massive jump in EV tech appears, I think the current generation has about run it's course.

I will drive an internal combustion engine vehicle until they take it our my cold, dead, previously-free-to-travel-anywhere-I-wanted, hands.

I am also curious if the environmental folks start to realize how bad the batteries are from a mining and post-life recycling perspective are. That's going to come to a head soon.

All this to be said, I'd love a Rivian as my work commuter, I just can't justify the price

If there were more charging stations for them around me and they were more affordable I'd love to have one for commuting. It'd make sense for my wife and I to have an ICE vehicle and an electric if the price were right.

Oh no. Who is going to use all of those charging stations Biden has been bragging that he is responsible for?

We built 8 for a billion a pop in 3 years.

Should’ve heavily pushed hybrids instead.

I either drive really short range in my neighborhood (good for electric) or long range (trips). I’m not renting cars for long range.

EVs are getting cheaper by the minute, buy they're held back by charging times and infrastructure.

Battery tech is rapidly improving, infrastructure is dead in the water

Toyota is notoriously conservative and has been hesitant to go full EV. They've focused on plug in hybrids and looks like they've been proven right.

Ram is supposed to do something in their next generation 1500 with an electric drive truck that has the famed Pentastar V6 acting only as a generator to recharge the battery.

It sounds prohibitively expensive. Idk if there's benefit in that route vs a plug in hybrid

And 46% of current EV owners won't buy an EV with their next car

I have a Model 3 that I walked out the door for 28,000. My work allows me to charge and I commute an hour each way on the highway. The financing cost for the 28,000 is cheaper than gas to do the commute in my f150. So I get a Tesla for the cost of insurance in my case. My decision was purely financial, F the green shite. Plus it's a fantastic commuter car.

Plus in the northeast, charging is everywhere if I really need it. I get a break on off-hour tolls as well.
