Spectrum internet

Spectrum is available 1/4 mile away although it’s in another parish. I currently have Starlink which has been a true game changer for us.
I received an email yesterday stating Spectrum Internet will be available soon in my area and that I’ll receive another email when it is available. I’m looking forward to Spectrum because of the speed increase and price decrease - currently at $120/mo. for Starlink.
Anyone recently have Spectrum move into your area? How long from the initial word did it take for installation? Any warnings about Spectrum?

Get ready for your bill to triple after your two year introductory rate expires. Will be $100+ after two years but you’re good until then.
Keep the starlink equipment so you can switch back over for a month or two until Spectrum offers another discount.

Spectrum provides a good service in areas where the plants have been well maintained. They also give you a discrete modem and not a combo device if you want.
No reason to avoid them.

Signed up for starlink several years ago before it became available. Once my area became available the system would not recognize my purchase of the equipment for some odd reason after trying numerous times. Needless to say i had signed up with spectrum and for the last 7-8 mos it has been solid @ $80/mos.

I've had Spectrum for several years. We experience frequent outages. I'm about to switch to a county coop laying fiber optic cable in my neighborhood.

I just recently had Spectrum fiber installed after 4+ years of discussions and back and forth with construction. Several different people, maps, address lists, etc.
Once construction was approved, it took just over 3 months to complete
My service was installed July 24th with some slight installation hassle. The tech was late and did everything he could to avoid the work. He finally finished after 3-4 hours.
When it’s working, the service is great and delivers (wired) speeds as promised (1000+ up/down). It’s worth noting the upload speed is greatly reduced on the non-gig plans.
Since the 24th, it went down on July 29th at 2AM and restored around Noon. It then went down again on Aug 19th at 2 AM and restored 4 AM the NEXT day. However, it’s currently only delivering 4 up/down.
No idea why, no bad weather or anything external that would impact it.
I’m hoping this is simply related to “growing pains” of the recent expansion and software on their side and is not indicative of recurring issues.
The good news is despite begging for 8 years to expand service, both Spectrum and AT&T ran fiber to our area at the same time. So I have the alternative option of AT&T if Spectrum continues to be a problem.

This is part of a rural internet initiative so all cable/equipment will be new in the area.

New lines should be fine. they are terrible about maintaining old legacy lines and repairing/replacing stuff when it's time.
I had spectrum here for almost a decade at 5 or 6 residences until metronet fiber finally came last year. same price for 1GB down/up as spectrums 500mbdown/50 up. Would pay them $200 a month if i had to. It hasn't gone out once. maybe because not everyone is on it yet. but so far so good.
Tip. Place i lived previously was off the main road about 1/8th mile. Spectrum continually told us we weren't in service area, so I got one of the greedy commission sales girls at walmart to sign me up anyway on her tablet.
They came and ran the line something like 650 feet. obviously it caused issues, turns out the max they are supposed to go is 200, and development had to come run us our own high line and tap to our power pole because we were already a customer.

Lots of outages and always seems to be in dispute with a local channel during football season and everything gets blacked out. Same with DirecTV.

Just signed to buy a piece of land to build a house on that is a Spectrum Fiber location. I currently live on the other side of town and have AT&T fiber, and only had a couple of outages in 4 years, so the service has been great.
Spectrum is the provider for my new land, just ran the lines in the last year on poles in front of the property, however 20 feet across the street is a AT&T box with fiber in it. Not sure what direction it feeds or anything, but it's just across the street, so I'm hoping I can talk to a local tech and see if they can just run the AT&T across the road to me.

right now you might be better off with spectrum. at&t is having tons of issues all over the country right now. Rebooting gateways, massive latency build ups, loss of connections, etc.

That’s would be frustrating. What kind of speeds were you getting vs what you paid for?
Starlink speeds went up from around 60 to 90mbps since I got it two years ago.

Wait until the promotion ends. I have the cheapest plan I could get just because I needed a login for ESPN to watch everything on SEC+. I also had the 300 internet package. Where I live it’s either spectrum or AT&T over the phone line or starlink. I was paying 147 a month and they told me that it was going up to over 200 when the promotion ended. I told them to cancel the TV. I only wanted the internet. They told me my internet was going to be over 90 plus all the other fees that go along with the plan. After back and forth we agreed to the cheapest TV plan that would still allow my login to work for ESPN affiliated channels and 500 internet package. Now I’m paying 120 after all the fees. Not great but I needed their internet to watch all the ESPN channels. I live in a small neighborhood with one way in and out. Internet for the most part is fine 90% of the time but sometimes I do get some buffering on weekends when a lot of people are home in the neighborhood using the internet
