How much dead money on the cap or we STILL owe him money ???

Carr sucks… I say let the other 2 guys play and try to save money… if it’s not too late to try and save money !!

You just don’t get it.

Forget the dead cap money for a moment…

This is a 6 win team with Carr as QB.

This is a 4 win team with the other 2 QBs.

That’s how bad this team has sank !!

sadly I think you are right. My biggest fear is we get lucky go one game over .500 , miss the playoffs and they retain DA

He basically can't be cut until the 2026 offseason. We are stuck with him on the books for 2 more seasons

Cut him.

If you want a championship, cut him.

He is dead weight, its not like he gave yall a deal.

He extended to maximize his money, hes not Tom Brady.

Cut him, and move on your D is good take the hit and fix it.

Im not convinced your backup QBs could be worse.

But if you let em play youd know for sure.

Derek Carr is purgatory.

It’s not that easy. It’s not a matter of talent or lack there if it. We literally can’t under the confines of the salary cap without tremendously impacting the teams ability to operate.

I don't know if we have enough salary to move to fit in a Carr cut, given all the other issues we have in 2025.

We have to move that salary to get under the cap and will likely have to restructure Carr to do it. Adding a $50-60M hit (and removing the $15-30M savings of a putative restructure) is just not mathematically possible.

And you have to wonder if he can even be cut then. As it stands, you cut him before the 2026 season you are looking at $28.7M in dead money ($11.5M in 2026 and $17.2M in 2027 if designated as a post 6/01). However, the Saints are $100M over the projected 2025 cap and he has a projected $51.5M cap hit coming.

You already know Mickey is going to spread that $10M roster bonus over 5 years, but how much of his $30M base salary will he convert into a bonus. That $28.7M in dead money could easily jump up to $45-50M just with how they adjust his 2025 figures.

Loomis made it sure this offseason with the restructure that we cannot get rid of him until AT LEAST after next season, and maybe not even then.

Hence the melt when that happened

I think its likely Carr is here 2 more seasons after this one at least. We have screwed ourselves.

His 2027 void year already has a $17.2M cap hit, and 2028 void year has a $5.8M cap hit

2025 cap hit: 51.5M
2026 cap hit: 61.5M

I remember telling the saintards trying to actually the contract as a 3/100 when we signed him that reality was just not going to happen.

There’s a decent chance he loses the starting job this year. That’s assuming DA has the balls to start the better player.
