Salary advice

Wife works for a hospital that owns another hospital in very close proximity. She's currently a director of a department in one hospital. The other hospital has a department that is identical but their volume is very much more. She was approached about being the director of both departments/hospitals and she's interested but was curious about how much increase she should ask for? Basically they would be eliminating the director position at one hospital so cost savings is there for the employer. Anyone had this opportunity before that could share some insight? I know double is out of the question.

If each position pays 100k, ask for at least 150.
However, what concerns me more is that she may be getting set up for failure. Going from low volume to high volume and then managing both departments seems really risky. Is she going to have support, like a deputy to handle the “management by walking around” at whichever hospital she is not at that day?

Before this she was in the exact same position at another hospital, two departments, equal volumes to the new hospital, but the lower volume position was interim. Interim pay was only 10% of her salary at the other hospital.
Yes, both departments have a manager to handle day to day concerns.

Agreed with above, I'd ask for at least 150% of current salary.

I’d say 1.25-1.5 times current salary.

I wouldn't go too high. They might replace both managers. Or how do you know they didn't approach the other manager as well?

Because the other Director has taken another job.

First of all, depending on contract negotiations I would never name a price first. The old saying is never talk first. Seriously. Politely sit down and I’d tell them you have a lot to figure out, but that you’d like to hear their offer first and go from there.
For all you know she is making $100k, you are thinking $150k, and they are considering $200k. There’s a lot more to pay than just salary, so cutting someone off payroll saves you a good bit beyond just salary.
I’d strongly consider paying a recruiting or someone else to give you a recommendation also.
