Spent my life in Merican Heavy Metal

Buick held the space for 60 years for affordable 4 door sedans.

Continental and Cadillac luxury
Great on highway
Luxury at 1/2 the price to buy, insure, and maintain

SUV's and Trucks are not the same in terms of getting out of the seat (important when you get old and need both feet on the ground before you stand up)

4 door sedan requirements
#1 roomy (at peak I was around tree fiddy)
#2 quiet cabin (especially when on long highway trips)
#3 hybrid so can get gas on highway and no plug in
#4 lower cost to buy and maintain

Toyota had the Avalon but have discontinued it. Seems mid to high end BMW or Lexus are the choices and they are $$$$. In the old days you had car chassis and truck chassis. Now you have truck chassis and sedan / SUV which are "unibody" but not exactly old school car chassis.

It looks like they are bringing the Crown from Japan to the US to replace the Avalon but more expensive than old Avalon.

Thoughts?

I had never heard of them. They look pretty sporty for a sedan.

I mean, a Camry satisfies all of these without the giant price tag

The Signia is available if you want a glorified station wagon on a slightly higher platform.

Buy a 2-4 yr old Avalon, with low miles. Profit.

Because the folks are wrong on the math on an all electric car. Most all electric still need fossil fuel to generate electricity via coal, nat gas, or oil. Not enough specialty metal to replace gas now on a global scale. Most electricity is pass through at the generation source where fuel heats water to create steam and turn turbine

Nuclear
Coal
Oil
Nat Gas
Solar

Seems wind and water are the only direct generators

My guess in a generation or two

Big vehicles (SUV's to 18 wheelers) will be hydrogen
Small vehicles (micros and sedans) will be electric

Folks can say what they want but physics and math win in the end. The bigger and heavier the vehicle, the less likely to be electric (battery) as the battery will weigh more than the vehicle can move.

Want a comfortable sedan I can easily get in and out of with out stepping up or down to get in. Eventually have a driver, then give it to the kids already paid for and in good shape. I keep a car 15 - 30 years and drive it till the wheels come off.

Not manufactured long enough, never by version 1.0 of a vehicle

While I appreciate a good pimpmobile, Camry is too small for comfort.

That would be a car I would recommend for you, given your requirements.

Previously, I would have added the 540ix to your list, as it is close to your price point and just as reliable. They changed the bodystyle this year though, and we'll wait and see.

You didn't mention AWD, and I always recommend that, even in LA.

They have been making them in Japan since post WWII so lots of history and hopefully fewer bugs

They have a sporty model but a more normal model for the middle class

Thanks for the point

My question for AWD is if it adds road noise on the highway. Tire selection plays a part but Buick did something for ages in the body that kept it quiet.

No, not at all.

Runflats can add noise, due to their stiffer sidewalls, but only after they are worn and just about ready for replacement.

Would never buy a Tesla. It is the most invasive auto available in the world when it comes to privacy and snooping on you.

genesis has been making the G80 since 2017, you're here asking about buying the crown which is the actual first edition model.... you're being hypocritical.

So AWD has gotten better and they figured out a quieter ride?

Tesla Model Y is worth a look, especially if you can qualify for either of the two tax credits ($7500 new, $300k AGI limit, $4000 used, $150k AGI limit). Tesla durability thus far is as good as anyone in the industry. Eight year battery warranty. Although it is technically a "SUV", it sits lower to the ground than most and getting out should not be a problem.

Buying a used Tesla through Tesla should be a pretty low risk experience. The main thing you are worried about with one is either accident damage, which Tesla will know about (they are pretty well the only source for major repair parts) and state of the battery, which you can easily check with their app.

I thought this was the Japan Crown on import?

Are they making a new one just for US import? If so thanks for the heads up.

Though Toyota mechanics hated to see one come in for maintenance, those words from an Avalon mechanic, my wife's car never went to the shop for unscheduled maintenance other than a couple recalls. It was a great car.

Tesla's depreciate like a rock thrown in a river.
And, I've found road noise to be an issue in the few I've ridden in. Much more cabin noise than my GTS.

I know you keep them a long time, but if I were considering any EV, I'd look at a Taycan. Porsche has been quietly dropping the price on those as well.
