What’s your opinion of paid maternity/paternity leave?

I see many sides of it.

I see it being a good thing to support families, but also the costs must be astronomical for an employer.

Some states have businesses that give their staff over six months of paid leave. If you have many employees having kids at the same time, that’s got to be a crazy amount of cost.

The family is the bedrock of our society. If our world is changing because people don’t want a family then we have to make the concessions to make sure that happens.

You get what you pay for.

More successful companies have strong plans to support their employees, including broad family accomodations like including not only maternity but miscarriage and bereavement.

Bad employers will have lousy plans and complain for their lack of investment and strategy.

My company has an engineer in Romania that’s been on maternity leave for 3 years.

Just deduct it from every time I've answered an email at 7 PM or on vacation to keep shite moving

Men who take more than 2-3 days are milking it.

If i could have taken 3 months when each one of my kids were born, i would have gladly done that.

You are replaceable and they will get rid of you in a heart beat if they chose too so take advantage of any benefit you get and don’t ever feel bad about it

With the trajectory of trends and how much everyone wants free stuff, I could see there being a push for a year or more one day in the US.

Maternity leave is great for moms and that time is essential for the baby.

Any guy taking more than a day is a woke loser who is hurting his company and the economy.

Business owner here. I give my employees 6 months paid, for both maternity and paternity. VERY interestingly, most don’t take the full time but I HEAVILY encourage it. Is it hard on us at the time? Hell yes. But I remember that time in our lives and how tough it was.

I take that stance firmly as someone who had zero paternity leave for our first little one. That burned me. Bad….And made me realize corporations really don’t give a frick about you.

Should give generous tax breaks to companies that offer it. We want productive citizens to reproduce.

Without doxing myself lol…IT, primarily backend architecture and design. We have 22 employees, plus some contractors we float when needed.
The last few years we’ve just happened to do a lot of POS (point of sale) system redesigns for some major international retailers; as an example if that helps any.

I see a lot of people say the breakdown in communities is the breakdown of stable families.

I then see those same people argue against paid Mat/pat leave. Beyond stupid.

A man who sacrifices to take care of his family in a system that has now necessitated that most married couples be dual income earners is woke?

I think the poli board is leaking again. Can someone please fix it?

I took a week off to get settled in and let my wife heal properly. Get our routine down. I go back to work tomorrow morning.
